In terms of care and quality, what are the main differences between public and private hospitals?

Well in terms of care and quality, the difference between public and private hospitals is the seriousness and punctuality of duty among staff. In government hospitals staff usually take their work unserious because there are no strict rules for staff behaviour since staff believe that whether they go to work or not at the end of the month they will be paid their salary, whereas in private hospitals it is not like that.

In private hospitals, the staff is always regular and punctual in their work because they believe if they fail to discharge their duty they won't be paid a salary. Private hospitals provide more quality care to people so they can be paid for their services. The only problem with private hospitals is the smaller number of staff where one staff would be multitasking his or her work, unlike in a public hospital where each staff is assigned to a specific role.

In your country, how the cost of treatment is different from private and public hospitals?

In Nigeria, the cost of treatment from private and public hospitals is different because treatment in private hospitals is more expensive than the treatment given in a public hospital. In public hospitals, once you are under the NHIS insurance scheme, you would be treated for free, while in private hospitals you will have to pay money first before you can be attended to.

Also, treatment in a private hospital comes with extra charges and expenses as you will get to pay for every service that is provided to you in private hospitals, unlike in a government hospital which is mostly cheap or free. However, one good thing in Nigeria is that both the public and private hospitals work together, and if a patient is transferred or sent to a private hospital he or she would be treated immediately.

Which type of hospital do you prefer for regular check-ups, and why?

I prefer going to a government hospital for regular checkups because of the quality of staff in a government (public) hospital and how less expensive it is in a public hospital. Going for regular check-ups in a private. The reason why I prefer to go for regular check-ups in a public hospital is because of how less expensive it is in a public hospital and also because I am under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) which going to a public hospital saves me from stress than going to a private hospital.

Have you ever been hospitalized? How was your experience?

Yes, I have ever been hospitalized in a public hospital, and I was later transferred to a private hospital for immediate surgery. My experience in both was cool as I was been attended to in both the private and public hospitals.

The public hospital is a military hospital, and since they don't have the needed facilities and medical personnel to handle my case, they referred me to a private hospital, that received and treated me immediately.

I am inviting my friends; @dave-hanny, @ruthjoe, and @vickyson to also join me.
