           INTRODUCTION

Hello friends of Hot News community, it is my pleasure to be able to write in this wonderful community.

The COVID 19 period was a devastating one, it crumbled a lot of homes, businesses and livelihood. People stayed more in the house and there was also a need for digitalisation the more. After the Ebola virus, that was the first time I saw a great pandemic that shook all the parts of the world.

After the pandemic broke out in other parts of the world, I felt it would be contained but it wasn't. The virus was spreading like wild fire to parts of the earth. I had hoped it doesn't come to Nigeria. But before we knew what happened, we had cases of the virus in Nigeria. The other parts of the world like Italy, England and others had already gone behind close doors for large gatherings.

I was in Eket, Akwa Ibom state for a job and on one afternoon, I heard the news that people won't be allowed to go out, in a way to curb the spread of the disease. I had to rush back home to uyo to prepare for the closed doors.

It was never easy during the COVID 19 period but we all survived it.

This is my story during the pandemic that made everyone panic.

Tell us how you survived from hunger and boredom during the lockdown.

The pandemic brought a lot of panic and every one was forced to stay in doors. The issue was not boredom but hunger. The only thought on our minds was how we were going to survive. Prices of goods went up due to scarcity. Food was reduced due to markets not being opened.

On the other side of boredom, I would say it was the best moment because we had a full house everyday. Family and friends were all staying together for months and this brought my joy and happiness to us even in the pandemic.

To escape the hunger, we had farm produce like cassava, cocoyam, plantain and rice. But we were concerned how long the pandemic would last. Well we could manage till we were relieved of being indoors but it wasn't easy to survive during that period. Hunger was everywhere and we could all feel the fangs of hunger, but we needed to adapt to save resources.

Tell us 4 ways you prevented the COVID-19 virus..

Like it is said prevention is better than cure, so was the pandemic period. We didn't want to contact the virus so we all had to make sure we didn't get it. The pandemic period was a time were we tried to be careful of contact with people and these are the fours ways I prevented my self from the virus:

  • Wearing a nose mask: During the COVID 19 period, it was abnormal to see a person not with a mask. It was enforced everywhere to wear a mask. So I had a lot of mask and tried to keep it clean everyday.

  • Washing my hands: I made sure I washed my hands very well during that period.

  • Using hand sanitizer was a habit I started too to keep myself away from the virus.

  • Social distancing: Any gathering that had a crowd was one I didn't partake in. I stayed away from most social gatherings and ones that I did go to, I wore my mask.

It was pertinent that we kept ourselves free From the virus and I did my best to stay safe.

Did any of your family members or close friends contact the virus?.

None of my family members had the virus. Everyone tried as much as possible to stay safe during the COVID-19 period. So none of us contacted the virus.

Ebola and COVID-19 which one was more frustrating?.

Ebola never had the whole world on its feet the way COVID-19 did. Ebola was contained before it could even spread and even when it was, it was handled properly. COVID 19 hit the whole world and there was nothing to do than panic and hope for solutions. That was before the vaccines which took time. But the virus was frustrating as it had killed a lot of people.

Some of the people who died were buried immediately. Their family couldn't even see them.
Businesses were affected especially physical ones. Hospitals were flooded and people stayed away from each other because of panic.

We also had to wear mask throughout the day, use sanitizer too. The prices of the sanitizer went up too.

It was very frustrating because we couldn't go out the way we wanted.

But we still had great fun during that period. We had much time with our family members.
