Here is my participation, I hope you like it and may be useful.

What are your native wear Names? Talk about each of them if many.

The name of Aceh's traditional clothes is Ulee Balang*, that's how we usually call it. Aceh has a variety of cultures that affect its customs including the way of dressing. Aceh's traditional clothes are a blend of Malay culture and Islamic culture, we can see this in the way they dress.

Aceh traditional clothes are also like other traditional clothes which have different philosophies, meanings and meanings from each accessory used. And the traditional clothes of my area of North Aceh have been used by royal lineages, but over time, these clothes can be worn by anyone and until now, these clothes are only worn when they are kings and queens (wedding receptions).

Ulee Balang's clothes are then shaped and divided into two parts;

Linto Baroe

This is the name for the groom, and the accessories used are also very diverse;

  • Meukeusah clothes
  • Sileuweu Pants
  • Sarong
  • Meukeutop
  • Rencong

Dara Baroe

This is the name associated with the bride, and is a far cry from the linto baroe accessories which consist of;

  • Crown (Patam Dhoe)
  • Shirt brackets
  • Trousers
  • Sarong
  • Konde
  • Jewelry (hands, chest (simplah), safety pins, rings)
  • Hand Decoration (henna)

In the past all these materials were woven using gold threads and jewelry also came from pure gold, diamonds and diamonds. However, now this is just an ordinary accessory but still beautiful and looks luxurious when the bride wears it.

How much can one cost? (Give price both in your local currency and steem)

These traditional clothes, if separated one by one, will have a high value, usually people will order them at organized weddings or goods rental centers. In addition to the high price, Ulee balang clothes are also only worn during certain events such as weddings and also important events such as graduation ceremonies for the committee, and also Carnivals.

For a dress it takes approximately 2 weeks. If you add the sequin decoration on the bridal pants, it will take almost 1 month. I ordered this dress at the July Wedding which took place at Krueng Gukueh, Tamboh Baroh. Plus a scabbard with beads underneath. All of this is not easy and cheap, for a pair of clothes I rent around 500 thousand. Wow, fantastic price, but worth the quality. Imagine if the clothes were bought, then at what price?

It doesn't just stop there, the flower head crown decoration will also be calculated at a price of 750 thousand rupiah or 241 steem at that time, now the price reaches 1.5 million rupiah as much as 483 steem. This is not a fake flower, but a real flower consisting of 2 jasmine flowers embroidered into a dahlia flower, 5 stalks of orange roses, and 4 stalks of white roses, 8 jasmine arrangements embroidered lengthwise and associated with the suffix jeumpa flower (a typical Acehnese flower). ). The scent of these flowers gives a happy and comfortable atmosphere. I ordered it directly from the factory located in Medan, North Sumatra.

What is their durability?

IMG_20221016_235019.jpg

This traditional dress is very strong and durable, apart from being made ofn quality cotton so as not to be hot when wearing it, then the stitching of the thread is also very strong and neat. Models like this usually require 2 weeks of processing time from sewing to attaching the sequins.

These local clothes have different colors, motifs, decorations, models, and prices. Some are expensive, some are cheap, but of high quality. Usually the choice of green, yellow, black, white and bright red is the choice of many people to give happiness to themselves and others who see it.

Undoubtedly, this traditional clothing is usually only rented out, and this means that it can last as long as the clothes are not torn and not dull. and usually these traditional clothes will often be changed and upgraded to models and colors so that they will definitely be better.

Do you think it can be allowed to be worn in other places?

The way we dress today has changed over time and also with the times. As I said before that this traditional dress is worn by nobles, and over time it can be worn by everyone, but because of the influence of the times, people began to wear whatever makes them comfortable but still polite.

Wearing traditional clothes during Carnival

At present, we can still see traditional Acehnese clothing in other places, such as at graduation ceremonies, inauguration of positions, or at national events (saman dance and talent events). I can say that in fact there is no limit for someone to wear this traditional dress even in a simpler dress.

Are there any similarities between your local wear and other parts of the world?

Of course there is. Aceh's traditional clothes are the adoption of Malay and Islam, so we often see these clothes have similarities to some traditional clothes from neighboring countries which also consist of Malays such as Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. And I am grateful that the Aceh Region still has a culture, each of which is strongly attached to Islamic culture.

Malaysian traditional clothes

How to dress greatly affects the norms of people's lives, but it is not a standard. We should not forget part of the cultural values that have been passed down and carried on for hundreds of years. Clothes are not a symbol of someone being good, but the way someone dresses reflects how he responds to his surroundings.

I am sure, with the development of the times, many other modern Acehnese clothing models will appear, and are more attractive and beautiful to anyone who wears and looks at them.
