1st August: Nationwide Protest In Nigeria; Say No To Bad Governance

Nigerians Must Protest

A few weeks ago Donald Trump got injured by a bullet aimed at him, he escaped death during his campaign and today I came across a retweet from dexsyluz on Twitter and it was about a protest in Venezuela due to a rigged election that has moved me to write concerning the situation of Nigeria.

These days I rarely listen to nationwide news because everything I hear makes me agitated and this very day I was so bored that I decided to log in to my AVO TV app on my phone, I almost scroll past if not for the display I saw which is says no to bad governance, I was curious to know the latest news so I held my peace and follow the news wordings and I heard from the newscaster that there will be a protest on August 1st 2024.

The news I saw at the time I took this screenshot from my phone stated the aim of the protest and the government's response towards it, the responses are always the same, "We are working towards your betterment: no need to protest". Everyone is tired of this singular ineffective and deceiving statement and nothing can stop the protest from happening tomorrow, everyone is prepared to go out but there are multiple questions one needs to answer ranging from ones that will ensure safety to the ones that will prove the effectiveness of the protest.

The Big Question

  • Is this protest going to be a peaceful one?
  • Could any protest be effective when it is too peaceful?
  • Is DEMOCRACY still working in Nigeria?
  • If it is, why has the voice of the masses not been considered?
  • If it isn't, is there any need for a protest?

I don't see this protest ending in peace because everyone is vexed, there may be no loss of lives but I am certain that properties will be demolished, if not no action will be taken. We don't pray for bloodshed but we want the government to reconsider their manifestos and look into making all verbal proclamations come to reality.

interview with a professor concerning the protest moves

Our fear each time we hear of a protest flashes back to the recent event that happened in the END SARS era, where youth protested to ban police from molesting youths claiming they are fraudsters. Imagine a young man, arrested, beaten and charged a high bail fee just because a white man's picture is on his device.

Year by year, with the emergence of a new government things get tougher, price of essential commodities has skyrocketed, is it supposed to be so?, if Donald Trump can be aimed in an ordinary campaign in a country we Nigerians would consider as developed, well-organised and better, what stops a nation like Nigeria from protesting amidst this turbulent era of hunger and poverty?

Saludos amigo.

Bendiciones hermano.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it @el-nailul

Thank you @el-nailul of steem4betterlife community, I really appreciate.

Some of these hoodlums are political boys whose aim is to cause havoc, they are hungry citizens, and poverty-stricken. I am afraid that what they may be paid to cause havoc, but in a country like Nigeria I don't protest can ever work when it is too peaceful.
Do you know that a time like this in the end sars era a light in the streets of lagos were turned off and youth were shot in the dark.

I pray God comes , to our rescue. Amen

Thank you sir for verifying my post

Hello @nsijoro,
The fact was that I knew this protest may not go well with some people because of the burning rage in some people's hearts and mind. This issue was serious that it becomes the most trending tag on Twitter X #notobadgovernance. Nigerians should know that we shouldn't involve war or violence in the matter that can be settled amicably. I hope this issues will be looked into and resolved by the Nigerian government. Nice post and thanks for sharing this

This issue can not be settled amicably but by the complete disagreement of the citizens to bad governance, if it would have been in peace then why didn't the government do something about it when they were no news of protest. I think Nigeria need something bigger than a protest for things to change and that should be a coup initiated by some element in the military.

@nsijoro, you have great insight about the current situation of Nigeria. As we have all seen, if the protest continues, we are sure it will end in violence than we have seen. Some bad actors use situations like this to destroy and aggravate the state of the nation. Protest is a good thing, where the citizens try to talk to the government and the government try to oblige. But in a country like ours, the reverse is always the case. I hope this protest gives them a wake up call to put things right in the country. Nice writeup from you.

I don't want anyone to lose their lives as a result of protest because they definitely because of hoodlums that may likely infiltrate the system and cause havoc. Protest should be stopped, but bad governance should be stopped to end protest...

@nsijoro
Truly every word written here is logical and accurate, when I heard the news of Donald trump's attempted murder, I was amazed at how far people could go.

I am still in fear of how the ten day protest is going to end, I only envisage violence as the ending. True there may be no loss of lives, but we haven't confirmed that yet.

The government should ensure the effectiveness of their manifestos to prevent this protest by it's citizens becoming a violent rally.
Your questions are thought provoking ones too, we all see Nigeria as a democratic country but the choice of the masses are not being taken into consideration.
Well as they say we expected disappointments and we will not be disappointed.
Thanks for the Sharing.

Truly speaking the state lf our country is truly bad and calls for immediate action. The protest was held and you can testify that it has borne close to no results. The government as a whole needs restructuring.

Thank you for bringing this vital Info to our doorstep. I sure am grateful.
