Who is a Good Samaritan?.
A good Samaritan can be viewed and defined in different perspectives. From my own perspective, a good Samaritan is anyone who renders help or assistance to people in need irrespective of their political affiliation, religious or ethnic background, race, colour or gender. A good Samaritan always ensures he puts humanity as his priority. He/she has human empathy and ensures that he/she stretches a helping hand to other people in need, not minding the cost implications.
When last did help someone, and what did you help the person with?
I hardly keep count of the good deeds I do or the number of persons I've helped and at what point I've rendered such help.
But the last time I helped someone was just yesterday around Asokoro city of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. This person in question was a total stranger who I've never seen or met before.
I was seated in the car waiting for a friend when this stranger approached me with a worried face and pleaded if I was heading towards his direction. I told him I was waiting for a friend and will not be leaving that axis anytime soon. That was when he opened up to me saying he was traveling back from his home state back to Abuja but ran out of transportation fair due to high cost of transport.
He told me he was stranded for several hours with no one willing to assist him with cash thinking he is one of those cooperate beggers in town neither wey motorist willing to give him a lift for fear that he is a kidnapper or ritualist.
The moment he explained his situation to me, I never had a doubt or tried thinking twice about rendering my help to him. Despite not having any cash with me, I dashed into one of the ATM machines around to get some cash since I was with my debit card.
Why did you help this person? How much did it cost you?
I helped this stranger because I was once in his situation and no one rendered any help to me. That day I trekked my life out to the point that my spirit and soul almost left my body.
Aside that, being a Christian, I was trained to always help people in need and shouldn't count the cost. Lastly, I rendered my help because before we are Male or female, coloured or black, Christian, Muslim or pagan, rich or poor; we were first, humans. So we have to have that human empathy and put humanity first, regardless of what it cost.
It cost me only but 3,000 Naira to help this fellow. I've never seen this kind of joy and happiness after rendering my help to him. He was so very grateful to the help and rendered. He offered a short prayer for me before boarding a taxi to his said destination.
What benefits did you derive by offering help?
The short prayer he offered was greater than any benefits I could ever imagined. My soul was at peace knowing that God used me as a point contact to help someone. His smiles was contagious cos I remained happy and full of energy for the rest of the day. God loves a cheerful giver. I'm rest assured that God was pleased with my little act of kindness. His love for me is immeasurable.
