Hi guys, It's another week with SteemTV, Welcome to SteemTV Show....!

Today's edition of SteemTV focuses on one of the new programs introduced by the WSP( World Smile Project) which is the Organic Vegetable Farming Program in Indonesia.

What comes to your mind when you witness an agricultural production system where farmers make good use of natural, ecological, and sustainable methods to cultivate crops and livestock....?

Trust me the answer is not farfetched....... Well, agriculturist gives it a unique name, one that you will love to read more about 👉Organic farming! Sounds interesting right, Isn't it?

Maybe we should take a closer and broader look at what this entails.

What is Organic Farming?

Organic farming can be defined as a system of management and agricultural production that combines a high level of biodiversity with environmental practices that preserve natural resources and has rigorous standards for animal welfare.- Ref

So basically, instead of a farmer going through the conventional use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and other artificial inputs, he simply adopts this interesting method of farming which might likely involve practices such as crop rotation and some natural pest control methods to maintain soil health and support biodiversity.

When you hear the word Organic farming..:

  • Think of traditional farming methods
  • Think of locally adapted crop varieties
  • Think holistic approach to agriculture
  • Think of the use of renewable resources
  • Think agricultural diversity

After careful thought on this subject, I was able to figure out good reasons why this system of agriculture should be employed everywhere in the world.

Any benefit?

  • We can't overemphasize its health benefits, organic crops are grown naturally without the use of harmful chemicals in the name of fertilizers, so it makes this product safer and healthier to consume

  • The natural environment is preserved because there is no use of chemicals (fertilizers)that will pollute the environment.

  • And since natural pest control methods are used, in this case for example a particular animal can be to eat up prey (pest) causing damage to crops instead of the use of fertilizers which has the tendency to pollute the environment

  • The quality of the soil is greatly improved by using natural fertilizers such as compost manure and crop rotation. The water-holding capacity of the soil is improved and it reduces soil erosion.

  • Our farmers can also have economic benefits as this method will reduce their cost of inputs while increasing yield. And prices of organic crops in the market are on the high side so it increases the income of farmers.

  • This method can reduce dependence on imported food into the country due to the sustainable agricultural techniques used in this method of farming.

The local economy can improve and reduce the level of poverty in the World.

Many countries today have adopted survival through organic farming and It's even providing job opportunities and a healthy environment to some local farmers.

Recently, there was a new program that was initiated by the World Smile Project in Indonesia, this program aims at combining the promotion of Steem and Environmental Protection by "Promoting the Organic Farming culture to the local community" as It was announced by @el-nailul in this post here.

During my conversation with @el-nailul (WSP Team), he expressed what this new program is all about and how It can contribute to a healthy environment. He also educate me on some of the importance of going into such a project. Most of the knowledge I shared above was part of his lectures to me today....., I think I might start this soon...😁

"The program is expected to create sustainable and fully organic vegetable farming to address the healthier food issue while protecting the yield from being contaminated with dangerous chemicals and having a bad effect on human health and destroying the land itself". -@el-nailul

World smile Project works with evidence, and It will Interest you to know that I joined the Inspection of the organic farm initiated by the Worldsmile project in Indonesia today It was a Virtual Live tour from my side with Mr @el-nailul, @heriadi, and other members of the team. It was morning in Nigeria and evening in Indonesia... I was fond of telling them good morning..., whereas It was evening on their side... 😂

He showed me around the Farm and we had a long conversation about the different stages of the farm as well as the plants.

Some of the plants I saw were :

  • Eggplant
  • Tomatoes
  • Chilie pepper
  • Beans
  • Moringa

This organic program is expected to run from March 13th to June 13th, 2023, which means It has already started and the result will still be out.

Hello @obongudofot, the topic of crops is very interesting, it's good to know so you can learn a little. I like to sow but sometimes the harvest is not given to me because of the termites that come out from below and eat them.

Greetings, have a happy day.

Thank you very much for finding this Interesting, sorry for the late reply. I am sorry to hear about the termite disturbing your plant. Do you think using a form of pest can solve this...?
