North Korea raised the level of criticism by mobilizing the news media ahead of the joint South Korea-US Freedom Shield exercise scheduled for the 13th to 23rd.

On the 4th, the Chosun Shinbo, the official newspaper of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, which represents North Korea, criticized the ROK-US joint training scheduled for this year, including the “Shield of Freedom,” as “taking on the character of a preliminary exercise aimed at invading North Korea.”

The Chosun Shinbo claimed, "They are constantly posing military threats to the other side by continuously conducting large-scale war exercises," and "This is the reason why Joseon solidifies its self-defense capabilities."

Foreign propaganda media 'Uriminjokkiri' said, "The United States and puppet fighters are planning various invasions of North Korea by mobilizing large-scale land, sea, and air forces this year, such as 'Shield of Freedom', 'Soring Eagle', 'Vigilant Storm', and 'Ssangmae'. They are pushing the situation on the Korean peninsula to escalate tension and to the brink of war by openly disclosing plans for war drills.”

"The growing tension and danger of war on the Korean peninsula is an inevitable product of reckless military confrontation maneuvers by the US, which is wholly aiming to crush the DPRK, and the south Korean puppets, who are following it and want to realize their ambitions to invade North Korea," he said.

The South Korean and US military authorities jointly announced the day before that they would hold a joint exercise called "Freedom Shield" from the 13th to the 23rd of this month to establish a combined defense posture.
