The Office (2005-2013) Tv Show Review

The Office is a british tv show that due to its success received too many adaptations, one of these adaptations is the american The Office and probably the best known and most loved, this version was broadcast from 2005 to 2013 with 200 episodes more or less. I am not too much into watching tv shows and even so The Office knew how to swallow me in its whole world and characters, I could not stop watching it from the first moment I watched the first chapter, I can say that it is my favorite comedy tv show and currently it is one of my favorite.

So, What is The Office exaclty? The Office is basically what you would call a mockumentary, in other words, a fake documentary based in fictional situations, we will follow the lives of some office workers in their day to day, all of this in a pseudo documentary format. The most relevant character is Michael Scott, an eccentric boss who puts fun over work, leading to hilarious and funny situations, he often describes himself as someone funny and also describing his workers as part of his family, this sounds actually good but the problem is that Michael is not a very competent boss, so he doesn´t inspire an air of professionalism or confidence around his employees, Michael is also quite an offensive person without him realizing it.

The pseudo-documentary format allows us to feel part of the employees' work area and not just as a spectator, which is perfect to empathize with the characters and get fully into their personal life. The Office in its beginning handled a dark and acid comedy but from the second or third season The Office prefers to handle a more acid humor than black and the impressive thing is that it manages to work just as well, the tv show continues to give laugh even with the slight change in the comedy, everything that has to do with comedy is handled well, making it never get repetitive.

However, it is necessary to emphasize that The Office presents a humor that could be quite uncomfortable for certain people, I do not say it because of the black and acid humor, I say it more because of the fact that we will see many times the characters get into embarrassing situations that the truth is that one cannot avoid dying of cringe because of others, no matter how funny it is, this feeling of discomfort is present especially when Michael Scott does anything or interacts with any character in the show.

One of the strengths of The Office is its comedy, but also its characters, as I said before, the pseudo-documentary format allows us to get fully into the lives of the characters and sympathize with them in their day-to-day life, some of them being quite hilarious, the secondary characters in The Office as the seasons go by they get to develop their characters, some of them having their own character arc and others remaining in comedy relief but are also often very charismatic. The cast of characters in The Office is quite charismatic and honestly I could not imagine the tv show without any of them, the performances are very good highlighting Steve Carell who does an excellent job acting as an eccentric Michael Scott.

The Office is one of those tv shows that you love or hate due to its humor and eccentric characters, as well as uncomfortable situations, however I have loved it and it is one of those tv shows that I feel that you should give it a try even once, my experience watching The Office has been very positive and it is honestly recommended that you watch it especially in this quarantine that there is not much to do.
