At a point in my life Sidney Sheldon changed the way I perceive the world around me, I have read a lot of his book but my favorite book character is Ashley Patterson from Sidney Sheldon's TELL ME YOUR DREAMS.
Here we follow a story of three co-workers Toni Prescott a singer, and a shy artist Aletta Peters and Ashley's father, Dr. Steven Patterson. All women have a common hate for their mother and they don't get along well with each other. Ashley believes she is being followed because of her lights were left on in her apartment and somebody used lipstick to write on the bathroom mirror YOU WILL DIE, she goes to the police and is given an escort but the following morning he is found dead in her apartment. two other murders had already occurred with the same pattern, the victims had sexual intercourse before being castrated and murdered. Current evidence points to the same woman that did all the killings. When a gift from one of the men that was murdered that was gifted to Toni is found among Ashley's things, she is identified as the killer and arrested. It is revealed that the three women are the same person living which is Ashley Patterson living with Multiple Personality Disorder (DID).
In the early stage of her life her father Dr. Steven Patterson sexually assaulted her which lead to her development of Dissociative Identity Disorder, her alter was born here, Toni Prescott represents her struggle and fear as a helpless child without sexual maturity, and (Toni) develops into a protective one and becomes murderous when encountered with similar conditions. Toni killed the men out of fear and protection for Ashley. Dr. Steven also assaulted his daughter on another occasion that was on their trip to Italy, here another alter Aletta Peters was born she represents her feeling of shame and pain of being breached, thus developing into a source of console exhibiting warmth and motherly love who has good rapport with Ashley.
On the court trail the existence of Dissociative Identity Disorder is debated about and Toni was called up to the stand to talk that was the only the thing that showed Ashley innocence. Ashley was admitted in an insane asylum with her two alters her Doctor Dr. Gilbert falls in love with her. The news of her Father Dr. Steven Patterson marrying a new wife breaks and Ashley comes to learn that his new bride has a three years old daughter. The alters make a plan and they play good to be released from the facility, Dr. Gilbert confirms her release. We see Ashley in the last scene on a bus to the Hamptons where her father lives for Toni to kill and finish the job once and for all.
Ashley represents how fragile the human mind can be and how trauma and pain affects each of us individually. This Character speaks to me and the realness of her story makes Ashley Patterson my Favorite Book Character. Ashley is everyone of us, if you are going through any kind of assault of any shape/form don't be afraid to speak out. THANKS FOR STOPPING BY>>>>>>
