Religion simply put is the belief and worship of a sacred being or diety believed to have controlling power. Being a Christian, a religion that has evolved over the years and is widely practised across the globe. Believed to have started in the first century AD, the religion was adopted by the Roman empire. However early Christain faced persecution in the form of prison and death .
The doctrine of the apostles brought the early church in conflict with some Jewish religious authorities. It was during this period that the apostles Stephen and James were killed becoming the earliest Marty's in Christendom. This and many more persecution faced by the early church ensured that it had a distinct identity from Judaism. The term christainity was first used for the disciples in Antioch. The Armenian king Treat the third would be the first to legalise the worship in the year 301, however Emperor Constantine was the first Christain emperor having learned of the worship from his mother (Helena).By 391 under the reign of Theodosius 1, christainity had become the state religion in Rome, and being a sprawling empire this contributed to the spread of the faith, as is testament of the presence of the Roman Catholic Church in most parts of the world.
Christainity has as it's principal aim: salvation for mankind who had fallen as a result of sin according to biblical account, with Jesus Christ as the head. The knowledge of right and wrong also brings to bear, the reality of heaven and hell- the former a place of enjoyment for the saints and the latter being a place of torment for sinners with Satan as it's head, it's focuses and encourages faith, as is recorded in one of the scriptures that without faith no man can see God.
