A story from the Indian folktales...
Once upon a time there was this clever monkey living in a tree, the tree bore juicy, rose apples the monkey was very happy in the tree.
A crocodile who was in search for food swam to the tree the monkey lived in. The crocodile told the monkey he came from afar and was very hungry. The kind and generous monkey gave him some rose apples which the crocodile enjoyed very much and asked the monkey if he could continue to come for more. The monkey agreed.
The two became very close friends since the crocodile kept on coming for more fruits each day. The monkey and the crocodile shared everything about their lives together. The crocodile told the monkey he had a wife. On this particular day when the crocodile was living the monkey gave him some extra rose apples for his wife. The crocodile's wife also enjoyed the fruits very much and asked her husband to keep on bringing her some everyday.
Unfortunately, the crocodile's wife got jealous of how the crocodile and the monkey's friendship deepened day after day. The Crocodile's wife asked her husband to invite the monkey to their home since she thought in her mind the monkey's flesh would be very sweet. The crocodile was not happy with his wife's idea and the crocodile told his wife the monkey could not swim and it would be difficult for the monkey to visit them.
The determined crocodile's wife came up with an idea that she was sick and needed to eat a monkey's heart to survive. She threatened the husband that she would die. The crocodile had no choice but to invite the monkey since he wanted to save his wife's life. The crocodile went to the monkey and told the monkey he could ride on his back across to meet his wife which the monkey agreed to. But as they reached the middle the crocodile began to sink the monkey asked him why his was doing this. The crocodile told the monkey how he wants to save his wife's life my killing him. The crocodile explained everything to the monkey. The monkey being smart told the crocodile to take him back because he forgot his heart at home.
When the crocodile took the monkey back, the monkey quickly jumped onto the rose apple tree and the monkey told the crocodile to go tell his wicked wife she married the biggest fool on earth.
