In some way Alfredo was like the father of "Totò", because he was his friend, confidant and a great teacher. It taught him how good and important it is to project a movie for the entire audience.
One day a fire broke out in the cinema, while Alfredo was showing a film, a projection reel exploded in Alfredo's face, the little "Totò" dragged him out of the cabin saving his life. Alfredo was totally blind.
The cinema is rebuilt and Salvatore, still a child, is hired as the new projectionist, since he is the only person who knows how to operate the machines.
Over the years, Salvatore, a successful film director, returns to his hometown to attend the funeral of his old friend Alfredo. The memories of his first love with the beautiful Elena and of all the chapters that marked his happy childhood soon return to his mind, connecting Salvatore with the community that he abandoned 30 years ago.
Before dying, Alfredo gave his widow a film reel without a label and asked him if, one day, he would see Salvatore, his beloved "Totò", give him the film.
Alfredo's gift was those romantic scenes that the priest -the definitive censor- ordered cut from the projected films, and that he wanted so much to see as a child ... he sat alone in a large movie theater that belonged to him and began to cry and remember those beautiful moments with your great friend ...
