I don't think I will ever forget the first day I stayed on my own without my family. Those memories will forever be stamped in my mind.
It all started with my gaining admission into the University of Nigeria to study Law, when I saw my name on the first admission list my heart leapt for joy, it was like the dangling of
a monkey from one branch to another when it has spotted a bunch of banana. I was so happy and proud of myself, joy was written all over my face.
The following week I went to the market to buy the things I needed for school; my white shirts and black trousers which is the uniform of every law students, I also bought kitchen utensils, a big brown box and a wardrobe as I was going to stay in a lodge on my own. I felt like a grown man not knowing the challenges ahead.
On the 23rd of November, 2018 I travelled to to Enugu to begin a whole new chapter in my life. I was so excited, on arrival we headed straight to my lodge situate at Maryland. It was a very busy environment as there was a little market close by. After I moved in and settled down my mom left for Onitsha then it dawned on me that I was all on my own. I knew nobody and as a first timer it was difficult for me to interact. I felt very sad and depressed thinking I have seen it all, I went to sleep having left my window open as the weather was very hot.
On waking up in the midnight I looked at the wall what I saw next sent down shivers and I had goose pimples all over. Huge black well fed mosquitoes on my wall, they were so many indeed they feasted on me. I was so scared since I have never witnessed such before it made me think about my home that I really began to long for it and I wished I was never here. I went to school depressed and sad. It was my most terrible first day at anything.

the long story short, I eventually got used to the whole environment, I made new friends who have really helped me a lot. I guess all I needed was time to adapt and fit in.
