"No sweetness Here" is the title of the book I'll be reviewing.
It is a prose that my English professor suggested for us English students to read and study as well as write exams. Since the course is a general course for everybody, regardless of what you're studying in high school, it's a general book for everyone.
A book review is a type of literary criticism in which the material, style, and merit of a book are discussed. A book review may be an opinion piece from a primary source, a summary review, or a scholarly review. Books may be checked for print periodicals, magazines, and websites, as well as for school projects and book web pages.
Now, here's a review on the book "No Sweetness Here"

Overall, I believe Ama Ata Aidoo is dwelling on the mistreatment of wives in Ghanaian culture in No Sweetness Here. Chicha is the story's main character and narrator. She works as a schoolteacher in her hometown and is especially close to Maami, the mother of one of her favorite students. Despite his young age, Kwesi is described as a very beautiful boy at the start of the story. Both Chicha and Maami held him in high regard.
Unfortunately, Chicha had to witness the father's mistreatment of the mother and son. He was never around, despite the fact that Maami was his first wife, and you'd expect him to be. Following their poor treatment and neglect, they separated, and Kwesi was given to his father. Why would they give custody to his father, who was never an involved figure in his life? Maami couldn't bear the anguish of being separated from her son, particularly if it was for the rest of her life.
This story highlights Ghana's poor treatment of women. In this story, Ama Ata Aidoo really captured the pain that these women go through. Chicha almost represents us as readers looking into a traditional cultural relationship. Maami and Kwesi were not only ignored, but they were also abandoned. We witnessed the same thing as Chicha. It was game over for Maami as soon as the snake bit Kwesi. What other options did she have? Her son was abducted and later assassinated. She was left lonely and despondent, with no one to console her.
No Sweetness Here. Ama Ata Aidoo has published a collection of short stories. There are eleven stories in all, all of which are well-written. They are stories about problems in Ghanaian culture, and one of the things I like about the book is that, despite the fact that it was published in the 1960s, we can still relate to it in 21st-century Ghana.
Everything Counts, For Whom Things Did Not Change, In the Cutting of a Drink, The Message, Certain Winds from the South, No Sweetness Here, A Gift from Somewhere, Two Sisters, The Late Bud, Something to Talk About on the Way to the Funeral, and Other Versions are among the short stories included in the collection.
Picking a favorite and a least favorite was challenging. Maybe I'll go with In the Cutting of a Drink or The Message, or Two Sisters, which was also enjoyable. No Sweetness Here was my least favorite. Okay, it wasn't my least favorite, but it's a story I'd rather not read again because the woman lost everything.
Despite some spelling errors and other errors that may be the fault of the publisher/printing press, this series of short stories is one of the best I've ever read. I'm thinking of compiling a collection of short stories like this.
I'm going to give it a 4.5 out of 5 star rating.
Hope you enjoyed my review on "No sweetness Here"
