MASLOW AND SELF-REALIZATION

Self-actualization theory is Maslow's highest level theory. Self-actualizing human has given birth to other needs and now tries to find ways to do his best. In his study of 3000 college students, Maslow identified only one person as having this trait. According to Maslow, the self-actualized person shows characteristics that can be grouped in 4 groups;

  1. Awareness
  2. Honesty
  3. Freedom
  4. Trust

We can also say that Maslow's work focuses on how healthy personality is formed.
When we look at Maslow, an individual is what he can be. This refers to the individual's willingness to fully express himself and the tendency to begin to truly show the potential he has. That is, it says that the individual must have all the capacities he can do.

According to him, he expresses that people have an innate instinct to realize themselves and this concept of realization is the use and development of human's latent power. People in the process of self-actualization need to gain information about themselves and the outside world, and to better understand what is happening in themselves and their surroundings.

In his studies of the need for self-realization and growth, Maslow states that people who enter the process of self-realization have different characteristics than the average people. It is also emphasized that there is no exact and precise definition of what it means to be psychologically healthy.

Maslow's characteristics of self-actualizing people can be stated as follows:

1. They perceive the truth as it is and easily adapt to the environment they are in.
2. They can build deeper interpersonal relationships.
3. They have an autonomous structure and are independent of their environment.
4. They have the power to be alone. They like to be alone from time to time. They are self-sufficient people.
5. They have a democratic personality.
7. They accept themselves, others and nature as they are.
