Haunted in death by J.D ROBB
Ha! Another one down in the “in death” series. This one made me laugh, smile, roll my eyes. I have to say there hasn't been one that I've read so far which hasn't given me these feels and more.
J. D Robb is adept at mixing in just right amounts of humour, witty humour and necessary throwbacks for the new reader so if you're looking on joining the fandom, you don't necessarily have to start from number one.
Haunted in death is #22.5 book of the “ in death" series. It follows the pattern of murder and subsequent Eve-quality investigation. As the title suggests, this one seems to have a twist of the supernatural in it. The murder is seemingly committed by a ghost who's out for revenge. There's also the suggestion of reincarnation. Eve and her pragmaticalness are not about to put it down to that when physical evidence is staring her in the face. Then there's the body. We follow Eve with awe as she finds her killer and deals with the beliefs of her circle and work mates. Add the creepiness of a haunted spot and you've got a hot bizarre case.
The author puts in subtle throwbacks throughout the book which would not confuse the new reader without irritating the fan. This is a clever thing to do because even though haunted in death is part of a series, it would not be difficult to read it as a stand-alone.
She employs imagery in just-right amounts. I am a big fan of this type of writing because it doesn't make me want to jump whole paragraphs with the excuse of too much description. Haunted in death is a novella, which means it isn't as long as a typical book in the series. Although it comes off as a mystery/thriller kind of book, it isn't lacking in romance, affection and a little erotic bonus for balance.
The characters are as flawed in their relationships as any of us so in solving their issues, I get to learn new ways of resolving my own relationship issues. Be it with friends, family or lovers. I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars.
I recommend haunted in death to mystery/thriller readers who would like an easy quick read. Enjoy! You may not see it coming.
