SEC S11W5: Climate changes in the world

in hive-113376 •  last year

Hey Steemian friends!

climate change has been a highlighted topic in the world for many years now. but honestly, it often seems like we're just chatting without really doing much. And guess what? My little island Sri Lanka, is really feeling the heat now. We're right in the middle of a massive drought, and let me tell you, it's seriously messing up our day to day life and tropical vibes of our country.

👉 Do you think that global warming is influencing the frequency with which natural phenomena are occurring?

Absolutely! it's like extreme weather is becoming a normal thing to people because it is everywhere and most of the people in the world are facing extreme effects. It's getting pretty tough to deny the fact that this is all weather related topics are connected to global warming. Have you seen some of these recent headlines?

Heatwaves, hurricanes, droughts, cyclones, floods! we couldn't run from any of it so far. The world temperature and weather patterns are changing at an alarming rate! It's like Mother Nature is poking us as saying, "Hey, something's not right." And we better be listening, because this planet's the only one we've got. If mother nature goes against us, non of us will survive.

👉 Has your country been affected by global warming? Can you give us an example of how it affects the country and you.

We are severely affected right now. Our reservoirs are drying up faster than anyone expected, every day the news tells us how much percentage of water level has dropped and now our reservoirs are down to single digits. And you know what that means? Water rationing. We are getting a real feel for what it's like when water becomes a precious resource. Trust me, it's not a simple issue because whatever we do we need water anyhow and it's affecting our home in a way we never considered before. For example, we always wonder now if we'll have enough water to even complete simple things like cooking, cleaning and bathroom stuff in the near future.

I visited Samanala Wewa Reservoir a week ago and this is what I saw!

This used to be a massive river 😥

👉 How do natural phenomena affect the economy and infrastructure of your country? (According to your criteria)

Though we are in trouble, I feel the worst is yet to come. If this weather pattern continues for another 02 or 03 weeks government might not have any other option but to enforce power cuts. This will definitely affect the overall production of the country.

Even for now all the paddy fields are crying out for a single drop of water, in such a situation farmers are fighting for any water resource they could find for their fields. if they can't get enough water now, we're in for a tough time ahead. Less rice means less food, and that's not good news.. Remember Sri Lanka had the worst economic crisis just a few months ago and we were just recovering! This weather chaos is about to hit our wallets, and it won't be gentle.

👉 "If" it were the end of the world and they choose you to go to another planet, what would you take or who would you take, explain your decision? (Only one option)

I don't know whether I'll take a decision to leave anyone behind. I don't want to survive without my loved ones. I probably stay with everyone else and do what ever it takes to survive the longest.

Even to imagine that I have to choose one person over another is heartbreaking! So I will probably die here in Sri Lanka. But if my mother wants to take that chance, well, it's all hers. I like to offer my ticket off the planet to her.

Thank you for this interesting contest @colombiaoriginal. Looking forward to taking on the next week challenge. I would like to invite @carlaisl, @crisvera & @morgan76 to participate in this contest.

Thank you.

Peace to all & keeping our fingers crossed for rain to bless Sri Lanka 🙏🌧️

Thanks for the review! I think my reference would help anyone who wants to dig deep.

Hi, friend. the climate has definitely been changing a lot lately, it is unfortunate that our planet is deteriorating in such a way. What a sad photo where we can see a piece of land that used to have a large river. In my country currently the heat waves are terrible, even at night.

Yeah, it's actually pretty sad to see that reservoir like that now. When I went there about a year ago, it was brimming with water and had this awesome breeze all around. But now, it's like a desert area. Changes can be so quick!

Thank you, friend!
