We are in an ever-changing world, the business environment is changing, the consumer pattern and behavior are changing, marketing principles (while some still remain relevant) have changed.
Years ago, there were few options, you didn't have to think much about where to buy, from whom to buy and the quality, you simply buy what the TV, radio or newspaper ad tell you is best or one recommended by your neighbour. Today, there are a lot of things in the same category vying for your attention.
What happened?
One word; Over-Saturation
I remember some 10-15 years back, when I'm to buy bread, the options were limited, there were only two types I could buy ( which was accepted by my family), Val-u and UAC. Fast forward to today, the market has been washed with so many different pieces of bread I simply buy anyone I feel is good enough.
In the same case with a mobile phone, in the past years, it was either Nokia or Samsung. Today, there is an unending list of mobile devices you can buy.
This state of oversaturation is what is obtainable in every industry, product, and service.
For instance, you want to be a 'fashion designer' (a term which has been so watered down), take a quick survey of your immediate environment and you'll be shocked by how many 'fashion designers' exist in your small locality.
Because of this state of over-saturation, customers have become increasingly hard to come by, so what must you do to place your product and service on the front queue?
One word; Innovate!
Can you think of anything that is yet to be made? I can't.
The ability to innovate is what makes successful businesses both big and small to rise above the crowd and create a niche for themselves.
Innovation is not a one-time thing, it's something that should be done consistently and continuously because guess what? Your competitors are not sleeping.
So if you want to be a fashion designer, all well and good, the challenge is for you to find and incorporate innovation to your product and services which will eventually place you in front of the queue.
