Reluctant goodbye to the holidays

The holidays are a joyful and tumultuous time. I never feel ready when they arrive, find myself rather overwhelmed in the middle of them, and feel like they went by too fast when they are done!

Tomorrow I will finally take all the decorations down. I will put away my Christmas village, the ornaments on the tree, the decorations on my mantle, and look forward to a special year ahead of enjoying the seasons, the people and the events that transpire in a year’s time.

But to celebrate the magic of this season of light, I will share a few pictures.

Did you notice Bumble in the first one? He is a feature of my Christmas village each year.

Every year I leave some strings of lights up through the winter months. They really help us get through our long cold season!

I agree, it seems to fly by way too quickly.

I have some ceramic houses out as well, and I often keep those out longer than the rest; they're so nice to look at, I think it's nice to have them out for more than just December.

Ah, it's not just me! I know people who box everything within two days of Christmas being done. And I'm like: "Hey, whatever happened to 12 days of Christmas?" :-)

Oh definitely not just you! It doesn't snow here until the end of January and February. I have a habit of leaving the outside Christmas lights up until it snows because it looks so pretty. My neighbour does the same, too; solidarity!

You do a beautiful job decorating. I just put a leg lamp in my bay window for the holidays.

@jayna - the holiday season really snuck up on me this year - and now it's gone already. Loved seeing your holiday decorations - Bumble is great, lol. Now to get through the winter - already looking forward to spring, lol.

I feel you. I just took down our tree the other day, and it's a chore that always leaves me feeling a bit teary-eyed.

The holidays can be an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. Thank goodness the New Year brings a fresh start and the days begin to lengthen again as we head toward spring.
