"There is a saying in Tibetan.
'Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.'
No matter what source of difficulties, how painful experience is,
if we lose our hope, that's our real disaster."
The Dalai Lama

Sunday morning. I woke, not in the best of moods, but trying to think positive for today. I was waiting for additional news about the tragedy that struck on Friday in the Northwest area of Houston, TX. A manufacturing plant exploded, claiming the lives of two people. Over 200 nearby homes were damaged. Fifty of the homes were blown off their foundations and completely destroyed. A devastating day for the families affected. We have friends and family who live in the area. They reported being safe.

Then, a few hours later this morning, news across the wire that Kobe Bryant, the basketball legend and his oldest daughter, lost their lives, together with 7 other individuals in a helicopter crash.

Last Friday, I can imagine this scene. The 2 employees who worked at the manufacturing plant told their families goodbye on their way out the door for work. Was this going to be the last day they would get to say that to their families? They didn't know.

Early this morning, did Mr. Bryant's family know that it would be last time saying goodbye to them before he and his daughter left? They didn't know.

I also saw the news reports of an earthquake in Turkey.

No one knows the day or the hour tragedy that is life ending will strike. No matter who you are; your status; or material possessions you may have accumulated in this earthly life, tragedy can visit you. It doesn't discriminate as to where it will strike next.

I offer my deepest sympathy to the families of the tragedies these past several days. Seems like there are far too many in recent years.

When my family arrived for a visit this afternoon, I wasn't in the mood to entertain. As my grandchild prepared to leave, I told her I loved her, and I'd see her next week. She said impatiently, "I know Nana, you already told me." I responded that I just wanted to tell her again.

You don't know.

So in line with my thoughts about creating the #thoughtfuldailypost movement. Every day is a precious gift, and your words hopefully remind us of this. Thank you for sharing this with us and for using my tag.

You're welcome @wesphilbin. It's especially sobering and humbling to know we have no control. We just need to try to live as best we can each day treating each other as we wish to be treated.

There have already been so many tragedies this year. I'm sure that for someone, somewhere a tragedy or three strikes every single day. It's horrifying when you think about it and yet, we must enjoy each day for the gift that it actually is and cherish those around us, or that we love.

You have to live in the present while still aware that we are not the keepers of time. I always like to leave my house with a good feeling left behind. Thanks for the words and the thoughts behind them.

Have a great day!

!tip

Yes, @dswigle. Every single day a tragedy strikes. We just don't know about it. And others feel the same way we do for their friends and loved ones. Have a great Sunday, hopefully a sublime Sunday of rest and relaxation. Take care.

I try not to let tragedy consume my thoughts about living each day to the fullest. Sometimes they make me feel like retreating back into my bed for another sleep. But I can't.. I face them and reassure myself that I am blessed for what time and love I have been given. These events remind me to try and be positive with my thoughts and what I put out into the world. They remind me to give back and pay forward. I just may be in the right place at the right time. You never do know :-)

hi @bdmillergallery. Living each day to the fullest extent possible is something to strive for. And positive thinking goes a long way. Your tendency towards this way of thinking to give back and pay it forward is a testament of your inner kindness. Thanks for stopping by and engaging with me. Take care

Each day a tragedy happens somewhere around the world. Someone dies or is faced with a terrible situation. We don't know about it because it does not happen in front of our eyes. When such things occur to those we know, then we become more aware that it could be happening to us as well. It's a good reminder that we should treasure more the present instead of planning the future.

Hi @lymepoet. You are correct. It does happen every day. Only the ones we hear about or experience personally is what we deal with. It doesn't truly affect you until it hits home in some way with you.

A terrible year so far with so many tragic and potentially tragic event. I guess every year brings some of this sourness, a hard reminder of how frágil life is.
I flew with my wife and one of my CV daughters 3 days ago and all the way I could not help thinking how every second could have been our last.
The trip we took, about which I hope to be posting later today (we are taking a bus now back home) was precisely to be with my youngest daughter at her birthday. We had not seen each other for some time and it is hard to live in the same country and be separated by pressing circumstances. distance can take a toll on love.

Yes, you are correct because we don't know. What I do know is that we have no control over this aspect of our lives. We can only live one day at a time in the present. Yes, we can plan for the future, but it's not guaranteed to any of us.

I recently re-connected with my distant family during last Thanksgiving. I just had a feeling that I should after purchasing an item for my wall that spoke of family. It was ridiculous to let petty differences stand between family members. Then the last time you see each other is at either you or their funeral service. I'm glad I reached out and extended a warm welcome to join me during the holidays. Now I know they are OK too and taking care of themselves.

It's so sad what's happening in your country. Tearing families apart is unnatural. I hope the situation improves in the near future. I remember you saying what was happening to families that you couldn't get together often enough.

Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate you stopping by. Have a great day.

Yes. Plan, but don't forget to live in the present. No day is guaranteed to us except the current one we're living today. It's hard sometimes to remember this when events and circumstances get in the way. Or we get too busy with being busy.

A note of appreciation @theluvbug for bringing me some positive vibes. Thanks so much for the notification and support.

I didn't know Kobe that well as a personality, as I'm not a basketball fan at all, but when I read about his and his daughter's fate, it hit me hard. I have a daughter and all I could think about was how awful that accident was for them, the other people on board, and their families who now mourn their losses.

Some things we'll never understand, but life is both precious and fleeting.

hi @free-reign. I'm a huge football fan. I like basketball as well. All the families are dealing with loss right now. They are not to be forgotten.

Oh my, I'm glad to hear that. It's still sad, but I thought this may have been about your family.

Hi @free-reign. The reason I was so sad was that the explosion near us in another city was close to my family and friends. So I was worried after hearing the news and calling to check on them.

Not involved and incurred no loss to my family where the helicopter crash is concerned. And the earthquake on the news. Only mentioned because of the 3 events occurring within a few days of each other.

Have a great Monday and start to a new week.

There is much tragedy happening every day and we cannot help feel the pain.

So true that no one is immune and we must always be watchful.

I was shocked to hear Colby Bryant and his 13 yr old daughter were killed along with the others in the helicopter.

My deepest sympathies to the families. Prayers and blessings !

So very true, we cannot change what happened yesterday, worrying about tomorrow is a waste of time, live for the here and now moments, make them count.

!tip

Hi @joanstewart. You are correct. We can't worry about tomorrow. We can plan, but we have no control over certain events happening. We can only live for todaya and cherish each moment. Thank you for stopping by and viewing my blog. I appreciate your support and encouragement.

Have a great Monday and start to the new week. Take care.

You too @jusclickinva new week and new month, start with a positive note and best wishes.

Sometimes it feels like we are the only people thinking about the end... seems like we are too many. The manufacturing plant explosion didn't get to my side of the world though I am still sorry for the families... but Kobe's death shock me.

Indeed. We should all live everyday like it's our last.

Hi @tezmel. You are correct in that it does feel like I'm the only one surrounded by tragedy sometimes. But then I share my story and find out others are experiencing the same or near same events in their lives. It's the sharing and connecting that brings people together. Sometimes it's good to bring people together in good times instead of always when tragedy strikes.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog. I appreciate your kind words and support. Have a great Sunday and take care.

Indeed. Sharing is the only way to unlock the inner healing that we so badly need. You are most welcomed. My Sunday is dwindling in this hour. Looking forward to my Monday as I let you enjoy yours.

It’s true, despite our advancement in technology the fragility of a human being can not be addressed - well not yet anyway. The potential for loss of life is there all the time, you just never know what might happen.

Hi @c0ff33a. You are correct. I think about making plans all the time, and have so, especially end of my life plans so that my family will know exactly my wishes in case anything should happen suddenly or naturally. I have always been a planner; but I realize that you have to live in the moment each day doing. I also try not to put off doing too many things because you never know if you might not get the chance tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by and viewing my blog. I appreciate your kind words, support, and encouragement. Have a great day, and take care.

Such a great thing to ponder

Hi @michellpiala. Yes, it is a great thing to ponder when you realize you have no control over what is going to happen in the future. That is the nature and wonder of life. So you have to live each day, love each day, even though you have to plan for the future. Thanks for your comment and taking the time to stop by and view my post. I wish you a great Sunday and have a good next
week.

Sadly, it's true, that anything could happen at about any time that we're completely unprepared for. No amount of planning can account for every possibility, so the best we can do is live to our best ability every single day.

Hi @wwwiebe. You are 100% correct in that no amount of planning can prevent some events in your life. Plan for tomorrow, but live for today has always been in my thoughts. And I love planning. I can't let it consume me to the point I'm always looking forward.

Thanks for taking the time to view my blog. I appreciate your kind kinds of support. Have a great rest of your weekend.

So sad and so close to home. Hug your loved ones every day @justclickindiva, I am. 🙏

Hi @wonderwop. Yes, it is very sad. It happens all day, every day; yet we don't really feel it fully until it happens to someone you know or is close to you or in your own family. Thanks for your support and kind words. The fact that you took time to stop by is much appreciated. Have a great rest of your day, and take care.

It is not easy to deal with so much bad news. And as our friend @ free-reign says: "Life, although ephemeral, is precious"
We have to assume that everything is perfectly in harmony and live as far as we are allowed.

Hello @oneray. How are you doing on this Sunday? I hope you are enjoying your day and your family because we have to live in the present for as long as we can. And it's not easy to deal with sad news, especially when your own family may be affected in some way. We just have to know that we have no control in this world as to what will happen in the future by certain events. Life is fragile.

So is. Life is fragile. This Sunday I am resting, although there is a camping activity right now. For the rest, writing and preparing a publication for the next few days.

And how are you doing?

That's great @oneray. Whenever I'm feeling a bit anxious, uneasy, or a bit down, I get to the computer and start a draft, see who is engaging with me, and try to respond. It really does take my mind off matters sometimes; at least for a while. You see others are having experiences too of some kind or another. Writing things down seems to draw the emotions out of you and place them in a form you can look, analyze, and then think about them from a different perspective.

It's all about the Super Bowl today. But I'll try to write a blog and finish some chapters of this book I'm reading when things settle down.

I hope everything flows and calm returns. You write very interesting and easy-to-read articles :) I hope to read what you do right now

Thanks so much @oneray for your kind words. Take care.

To much tragedies at this start of the year. Here we had the volcano erupting, virus in China. The loss of Kobe was hard to believe too. We just need to show our love to our loved ones as much as we can. No one knows for certain when the time is up.

Hello there @watersnake101. Yes, we have had too many tragedies to start 2020. And there are some we haven't heard of worldwide. I pray the eruption settles down. It's sickening the virus in China. It's now spread to the U.S. There have been so many, and will suffer many more to come. We just don't know, so we have to plan, but live in the present.

Thanks for stopping in and viewing my content. I appreciate your kind words of support and encouragement. Have a good rest of your day on this great Sunday, and the rest of next week. Take care.

Day by day is the only way. Gratitude for the breath in my lungs in full acceptance that when the breath stops I am done.
Focused daily on the free things in life, love, kindness, peace and laughter.
It surely does become a lifestyle.
Blessings!

Hi. Thanks for your kind words. I have a question. I'm in the U.S., and am not used to see currency written with a comma. It should be such as this $50.00 if I want to contribute fifty dollars in USD.

Before i continue, is this correct, because it looks funny to me. If you could respond ASAP, that would be great.

Well we use a comma here just to show that the first part is in the thousand denomination. Like this! R55,000 which means fifty five thousand.
But in $ we also use the USA system so $50.00 is correct.

Sorry, but I only saw this now and could not respond sooner my friend.
Blessings!

so if Paypal states, $50,00. It is actually $50.00 (fifty dollars)?

I think so my friend.
No reason why it couldn't be
Blessings!

Howdy justclickindiva! I agree, the news can be very sobering at times and we need to be grateful for every day we have because tragedies strike without warning.

Howdy today to you justclickindiva! My pleasure and keep up the good work!

It is unfortunate that these things happen to us, but I hope that soon you will shake off and get back on your feet and move on. God give you the strength you need so badly.

Hi @carolinacardoza. We all hear about the tragedies and must shake it off and return to our daily lives, watchful. There is nothing we can do to prevent certain tragedies, so we just have to life in the present. Thank you for your nice words of support as always. I appreciate your encouraging words.
