“Seems like a nice place,” Joe drawled, looking around. “Some sweepin’ them corners, oilin’ them hinges…It only lacks one thing.”

“And what’s that?” asked Sam.

“A deputy.”

“But town’s empty, Joe!”

Joe’s gaze was already far away. A smile was slowly growing on his face.

“It will fill up.”

This is my entry for the Zapfic challenge by @felt.buzz. The prompt this week is Deputy.
