Wednesday Walk - Time of the Super Moon and New Feathered Friends

in hive-114105 •  5 years ago

Mother Nature has been giving us some milder days this week with the Super Moon. I hope that adage that the weather you experience at the time of the full moon is what you can expect for the next while. I can do with warmer weather although it also bought a lot of snow which I could do without!

I'll be sticking pretty close to the yard for this walk with some views of the snowy pine meadow behind our house and all the activity of the birds which has bought some new feathered friends to the bird feeder. And of course I'll be sharing some photos of the super moon. Traditionally it was called the "Worm" Full Moon but I think that applies for more southern regions for it will be quite some time before the ground thaws here and the earthworms start moving around!

With these warmer days and colder nights it has been perfect for creating icicles off our sun room!

As we head in the opposite direction then I usually take for my Wednesday walk, we will enter the pine meadow behind our house. The snow beautifully accented the designs of the numerous branches.

View From Outside My Window Into the Snowy Pine Meadow

After a snowfall the sun came out and with the warmer weather the birds became really active - Listen in to call of a flock of blue jays plus a few other bird calls and view the beautiful snowy pines...

I had a few new birds come visit our yard - one I hadn't seen here before was a white breasted nuthatch. I had seen the red-breasted nuthatch, which I posted about here

One other visitor who I don't often see at the feeder was the grey jay. I managed to get a shot of it before it took off.

Me and Bruno had went out in the later part of the afternoon to see if the Super Moon might be rising early so we could get some shots over the open field at the end of our lane.

Sun Starting to Set Behind the Trees

We had no luck seeing the full moon just coming up over the horizon and had to wait until dark when I saw it rising among the spruce and maple trees. It was magical!

When zooming in for a closer look I found the bright full moon made an excellent backdrops for the branch silhouettes.

And finally a close up view of the Super "Worm" Full Moon as I zoom in to show some of the details on the moon's surface.

I hope you enjoyed this walk around our yard with feathered friends and gazing at the wonders created by the full moon. This is my #Wednesdaywalk which is an initiative by @tattoodjay go check out his latest post here. He collaborates with @elizacheng and her #MakeMeSmile initiative.

The photos of the White Breasted Nuthatch and Grey Jay is for @melinda010100 's #FeatheredFriends

Thanks for bestowing such beauty to a worm such as I ;)

Great Wednesday Walk post, @porters! I love the shots of the full moon with the silhouettes.

Fantastic moon photos! I have white-breasted nuthatches regularly, and the red-breasted are the occasional visitors in my yard. Interesting. Those squawking Jay's are really creating a ruckus! Thanks for posting to #featheredfriends! ❤️. !tip

I think the red-breasted nuthatch like the coniferous forest areas more so it is more common here but it is the first time I saw a white breasted one here!Glad you enjoyed the shots! Thanks for the tip!

Congratulations @porters!

Birds becoming active with warmer weather, lovely to hear what they sound like. Icicles hanging so low another great feature to display how cold it still is up North.

Full moon was a treat one night prior, clouded over on the actual night down here, no photography this time with telephone lines in the way of decent photo's.

Have a wonderful day.

Lots of great photos in this post! Bruno's a good boy, and it looks like he's enjoying sitting on the snow. :) I haven't seen nuthatchers before. A beautiful bird, but aren't they all? Congrats on the rally upvote!

Great shots of the super moon.

Always nice to see a new bird come to your feeder.

Bruno looks like he is waiting patiently for you to finish shooting the moon. 😂

Beautiful shots from you.

I love the photos - so haunting and mystical ((':

Wow! such wonderful photos! We haven't had any snow or ice this year. Which is unusual. I was watching Netflix last night late and didn't take the dogs out until after 1am. We live in a town and the streetlights go out at 1am. I thought I'd need a torch but the moon was so bright I didn't need one. I laughed about it when I got home with my wife because we always take the piss out of films where at night in the forest there is always enough moonlight to see what is going on!

Have a great day!

Great walk @porters. As always I like the diverse motives you show in your posts. Especially the moon behind the branches looks amazing. Great ones ^^

Your story is very good. I currently live in the South, Chile specifically. If the moon in your photos is the same one I saw a few days ago, let me tell you that its beauty can be compared to few things on earth. The celestial vault was totally clear; The city light was zero because I live in the country and even the smallest star can be detailed. I hope to have a good camera soon to capture its splendor at some point.

My sentiments exactly, nothing like the celestial beauties! I finally got myself a decent camera and have been having such fun with it and really upped my photography game! I am so happy I got it and wondered why I didn't get one earlier! Hope you get a good camera soon so we can see the wonder Chile countryside and celestial beauties!

WOW some amazing shots on your walk, love the birds and the icicle reflections, what a great post

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

I love everything you publish, they're magical places.

You live in a beautiful and blessed place, full of the great powers of nature. Also have great friends and Bruno is very handsome!! :) Thanks for letting us enjoy the amazing Moon through your eyes, I liked those pics of her through the branches!!
A big hug and best winds for every project, @Porters!!

I feel very fortunate to be living in the beautiful boreal forest here in Canada and always happy when I capture some of it's beauty that I can share with others! Glad you enjoyed them and thank-you for the well wishes!

Really impressive pictures. The first one is just amazing.I love winter icicles.
My favorite: "close Up of White Breasted Nuthatch on Tree Branch". These trees are heroic creatures holding all the weight of frozen branches and the tiny birds, well, what can one say. How do they do it?

I loved all the pictures, especially the ones taken by the moon. It was a great walk. Have a good day! 😘

I always enjoy your walks around your property with Bruno. This one was especially nice. Love that first bud silhouette shot and the full moon shining behind the maple!

Glad you enjoyed the photos!I live in the Boreal forest in northern Saskatchewan Canada. We are a long way away from spring thaw instead we keep getting more snow! Hello @porters,

Nice shots, especially those of the Super Moon. We have a Canon PowerShot A590 IS camera with which we have wanted to capture the starry sky and the Moon, but unfortunately we have never managed to photograph the beauty that we see with the naked eye. I guess there are lenses and techniques for this. At the moment, I am enjoying its shots.

My Canon PowerShot SX60 HS has 60x zoom and different features that allows you to take night shots. I'm very happy with it but I keep thinking what it would be like to have a DLS camera with the special lens. I'm still learning how to use my camera and still rely on auto Slowly I picking up how to set it to manual and set the aperture and IOS etc.

Wow, awesome shots. I imagine you with a DLS camera.

Have a great Friday.

Beautiful photos! I'm glad all that snow's not at my house though. Brrrr....

Very nice pictures @porters! Like you, I've long loved the little feathery creatures all around us. Up close we can see how intricately colored they are, as their songs fill the air with joy and cheerfulness. And the moon speaks of the marvel and wonder of the heavens and all that represents, from ancient times, of man's understanding of creation.

Yes I never tire of listening to the cheerful bird calls and am always filled with awe and wonder when looking at the celestial bodies above!

That's so pretty!

Ice and snow are some of the things we never see here where I live in Pretoria, South Africa, currently it is still hot here with today going to 33 degrees Celsius. I did however saw the full moon.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos!!

That nuthatch I recognize. :)) Just LOVED the first 2 full moon photos, with the pink ring! and the branch silhouettes were cool!

What beautiful photography @porters, a lovely #wednesdaywalk!

Oy Vay! I see that the SX60 is living up to it's super zoom fame my friend.
Well done and all of the photos are fabulous!
Blessings!

What a beautiful snowy walk @porters. The gray jay is lovely, this is the first I've seen. This reminds me of those snowy winter nights with a full moon, glistening on the snow. So quiet and peaceful.

Beautiful photos @porters, your posts are always so enlightening. 💕

The night shots are so vivid @porters. Thanks for taking me on your walk.

Wow! Everything is beautiful out there, the birds, and especially the super moon!!! 🌖 The moon is beautifully smiling at us too in this side of the world, and it is also as beautiful as yours (but only no maple trees for us. 😂)
