A Couple Weeks of Zeke!

It has been an interesting month since the last Weekly Zekely to say the least. Amazing amounts of work and fun, a gkobal virus, and a good amount of blockchain drama. I expect them all to sort themselves out for the better but will simply keep blogging as long as I have people enjoying the stories.

So, here's to reflecting on a busy month and remembering what I got up to during nights with too many cups. Actually, lemme spin this a little different and let you know, with accompanying pictures, some of what I learned this month.

I learned that a trip to the brewery CAN earn you wife points. You know....wife points. You either are earning them by being good or you are spending them on being bad, or having a blast away from the family. A brewery trends to be a healthy double expenditure of wife points based on the time away from the family, and consumption of alcohol.

During this trip, I brought my better half with me and custom designed a flight of beer I knew she would enjoy. Not a small task as there are only so many good light ales and wheat beers and Cowbell Brewery https://cowbellbrewing.com/ had me covered. Would go back again.

I learned I come across some strange folks in basements. I discovered both of these fine fellas underneath a few of the old restaurants in town. They are creepy enough and I might put together a post of the strange places my wiring technician gig takes me. It is a recurring theme and hopefully the next one won't give me the shock the guy on the left did.

I learned that hand-made, vegetarian beef wellington is fantastic. So many of the traditional meat dishes I have had recently converted to the plant-based ingredients have been so much better. Make no mistake, I am no vegetarian but man am I enjoying more and more dishes without meat! Come to Stratford and I will point you in the right directions.

I learned how much fun it is to perform Huey Lewis songs with the boys. We have a show coming up where we are tasked to convert a hockey team into a live stage show and the census was, Hueys Lewis and the Groove. Hueys because we have 4 singers alternating the leads, and The Groove is the name of said hockey team.

To give you an idea of what kinda group we are talking about, one of the Hueys illustrated the lyrics for I Wanna New Drug. If you don't know this song for whatever reason, you are welcome.

I learned that I spend a good amount of time around professional mixed martial artists. In the same month, training partners competed in separate live events where there was a 100% chance of violence. Chris, up there, fought a full fight to the end where the judges had to decide the winner. It was close but his opponent did just a little more and took the victory. Awesome fight.

Down there, Jorge was returning to the cage after an pro MMA hiatus though he kept active training students every day and competed up to the worlds in BJJ. I was so excited to see this match as I watched the last one so many years ago and remember it ending prematurely because Jorge broke his arm on the opponent's skull. This one ended equally as thrilling when the ref had to stop the fight because of a cut that developed from an old scar.

So proud of both fighters who are a couple of the toughest and courageous guys I know.

IMG_8634.jpg

I learned that the oldest computer in the house can come in very handy when it comes to recovering data from old hard drives. Pretty boring except perhaps for my fellow IT nerds who remember what IDE, AMD and crazy heat syncs look like.

text16.png

IMG_8656.jpg

I learned that impromptu, performance-based comedy can be pretty damn funny. This clown-like comedian spoke in an outrageous french accent and pulled her co-star from the audience. The line that keeps making me chuckle went something like, "Oh sure. There are some people here who were hoping for a live sex show. I can almost hear it now. A great show where some nice guy from Edmonton fucked a clown!" I didn't actually go to this show on purpose but I am sure glad I did!

IMG_8635.jpg

I learned that I like beer. Now that I have your attention, I actually mean I learned that I like this beer which is a Farmer Strong imperial IPA by Great Lakes Brewery http://www.greatlakesbeer.com/. I love hitting this brewery when I am in the big city and discovering a new brew I hadn't tasted yet. Especially when it is an IPA.

I have bigger Beerology news than this having developed last month. That will have to wait for my #beersaturday post tomorrow but here is a spoiler for my legions of followers.

What did you learn in the last month?

You learned quite a bit in the past month, although I'm a bit suspicious when you say you "learned" that you like beer in the past month, LOL. That just doesn't add up, even if it IS a beer you hadn't tried yet!

Hahaha yah. You know me too well. I leave easter eggs in many of my posts to see who is really reading. I have had a beer or 2 in my life before this one!

Looking into back of old computers tells a story in time, many of these old machines ran a lot longer than the new ones do.... Have fun exploring.

Time out enjoying !BEER bands, learning how to make pies all excellent ways of relaxing. Have a great day and week.

Indeed! The problem is not with computers nowadays, just the mass-produced ones have gone the way of the car which are meant to be disposable. I still get 5+ years out of my custom made gaming machines and a contemporary processor should last as long as the old ones did.

I wish I made those pies. Glad to have eaten them though!

Mass-produced is an understatement, of late you buy machines that are DOA, go back to the store and more often than not have to wait a month or two for them to sort out with suppliers....

Yes the older towers are still going 5 years plus more, when you know what you doing you are sometimes able to even squeeze them a little further. Both my sons gaming boards have had a run into the kitchen oven and still work, so you don't only bake pies in an oven... LOL have a great day.

It is an interesting discussion.

I don't generally sell computers to my business clients unless they get it. "This computer is $900?!? I can get one at Bestbuy for $300." If they say this, they have no concept of:

  • Basic bullshit computers vs business-class machines
  • Longevity of a computer - Cheap ones have shitty power supplies, liquid filled capacitors on the motherboard, and not enough RAM so the hard drive gets overused. All designed to work great at first and die quickly for repurchase.
  • Investing in the business
  • shopping local

On the gaming side of things, I hand pick my parts rather than buy prefab and it they last as long as they ever have.

We stopped selling a couple of years ago with the problem looming, send the client directly to the store, if needed meet them there to make sure they get a decent purchase.

Most offer 1 year warranty (very few 3 years), always ask for extended warranty (if 1 year), to cover for additional 2 years if available.

Nearly all are built to make warranty at least, some if you know what is inside (layout of fans etc.) will last longer.

My son built for years, basically all our machines are built by him sourcing parts. Old fashioned build where you select still the best option, way more expensive over here though.

I think I know one song from Huey Luis "The power of love" from back to the future. What other covers do you do with the band?

We have done so many over the last 10 years. Recently it has been the Beegees, Stone Temple Pilots, and even a live action Muppet Show. Makes for some pretty fun times and funny pics.

Excellent account of experiences, I was eager to read more.

So glad you enjoyed it and took the time to feed back!

If my adventures can provide a little fun for others as well, that is a victory.

That clown is scary looking! Glad you are enjoying the plant based foods.

Yah it was behind a support column in the spooky basement and looks to have been placed strategically for that purpose. ;)

Quite a busy month you have had @zekepicklman! From brewerys to martial art competitions to computers, you indeed learned quite a lot :)

Quite a while ago I decided that, to keep improving. I had to never stop learning.

Looks like you are on a little authoring sabbatical as well my friend. It will be good to see you back posting your stories.

I am typing this to you an old 32 bit computer that is my second wife my friend. You certainly lead a very interesting life.
A good post here!
Blessings!

Same to you good buddy.

Funny thing is this is a bit of a lull for me in terms of out-door adventure and it will really pick up in the spring. I guess that is what I find the most interesting. That or the wonders I discover in creating and launching a good business are just not that exciting in photos......yet!

Well, you know that your Spring will arrive soon my friend.
All strength and luck with the new business, and once it's up and running please let us know about it.
Have a good weekend.
Blessings

It is up and running! @town-crier on the blockchain and our official site will be at https://www.towncriermarketing.ca (placeholder there now)

I will have a look my friend. We are plagued by power cuts over here, so it makes life difficult to get around on the internet.
Blessings!

This is sure a great month of learning! Funny as always, especially the bits about the wife points.
I don't know the song. So we should neither stay awake at night nor sleep? We shouldn't get the measles or hit our noggins with a hammer, but we should scold our dogs and fall in love? I'm confused.

That's pretty much it! Check out the song so you can see how close you got.

Like clowns are creepy enough. Now you have to add teeth! Good work on the wife points!

Good to have a dose of Zeke! Don't leave it so long next time! :)

You gottit man. Hammering things back into a routine in these strange times is what I am hoping to accomplish. It will mean back to consistent posting and scooping up the great rewards when the value of STEEM is so low!

Yes! And power them up to help support our Witnesses! :)

How many different beer types/brands have you tried? Just curious.

You got some love from a member of @thealliance family!

Looks like you have been pretty busy. Really nice stuff there with the Wellington, Band, and visiting the Brewery.

Much appreciated Sarge. So great to have you along for the ride!

I had a lot of fun reading your writing, it's exciting and fun. In my case, it is my wife who likes beer. She enjoys the beer them around the house while cooking or deep cleaning. He really likes brewing his beer with lemon juice and salt. Here in Chile, it is called Michelada. This month I learned again that not everything is to work, but if you have to, it is better to enjoy it to the fullest and take advantage of those free moments to share with others.

Totally true.

The universe doesn't care what number is on our credit card or bank account. It cares that we are enjoying life, celebrating health and freedom, and spreading the love.

I learned that I like beer.

It’s taken you long enough!

Give that man a !BEER

I love the beer part and visiting the brewery part. I love to visit craft breweries when ever I can. I must say the MMA is a bit rough for me, those guys (and girls) are just wild!!

Wow! You've learned so much for just a month!!! No dull moments, always on the go. I love it! 😊

Hmmm, that made me think about the things I've learned this month! 😉
