Rom 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Context

Rom 12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
Rom 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Rom 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

If we look at following the teachings of Jesus, it is easy to see, His ways and the way of His followers is so very different. His ways are upside down compared to the ways and logic of the world. We are never to take revengeful actions into our own hands. We are to take the high road and overcome evil with good.

The bible teaches that man’s wrath or anger has no benefit in God’s Kingdom. We can rationalize our anger and our desire for revenge, but this is diametrically opposed to the heart of Jesus. I am not speaking of someone breaking into your house and is an imminent and immediate danger to your loved ones. In this case any level of force that is necessary to protect your family is actually our duty. But the Christian does not go looking for trouble. When we do this we actually open the door for God to intervene on our behalf.

Vengeance is mine saith The Lord!

• Look at the results of blessing our enemy. This is one of the most misunderstood verses in the Bible. What is this heaping coals on our enemies head?*

Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

When we follow this instruction of Jesus, we activate the Hand of God unto the life of our enemy. I have experienced this in my life a few times. There were people in my life. Actually people who I cared about, that began to gossip and try to destroy my character. I am not actually sure why, but three different people did this. I practiced this teaching of Christ and saw such amazing results.

Corona Virus

My exhortation today is to not only do good to people we care about during this trying time, but to do good even for those who hate us. To people that have poorly treated us. To those of religions we don’t agree with.

This is what is meant by being perfect.

Mat 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Mat 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Mat 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Mat 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Luk 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
Luk 6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

This is how we stand out in these dark times. Let the true people of God stand up!
