READ: Psalm 95: 1 - 7
MORE LESSON: Isaiah 51: 12 – 13
There are things men can do and there are others that only God can do. God said in Genesis 1: 26: Let Us make man.... Therefore, when it comes to making men, only God has that sole prerogative. No man can make another man; only God makes men. 'Making', in this context, is not limited to 'forming' or 'creating' but any sort of 'making'. Only God 'makes'; He makes failure success, makes the small great, makes the poor rich, makes the lonely married, makes the sick whole and makes the dead alive. When it comes to the job of 'making', it is in God's office. Anything a man is, it is because God made him.
When God called Abram, He told him: I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Genesis 12:2. When Jesus called Peter and Andrew He said, Follow me, and I will make you . . .: Matthew 4:19. God is the maker of men; God makes men but He does it through other men. Therefore, we must recognise those the Lord has used to make us in every area of life and appreciate them. It is important for us to honour the people God uses to make us who and what we are. The other side of the coin is that God can use any man in His process of making another man but no man should ever say concerning another man, 'I made him who he is today'. When a man claims to be the maker of another man in whatever sense, he is claiming the office of God.
The Lord is the maker of men and every man must look unto God to make him. It is a grave mistake for a man to expect another man to be his maker. When you put your trust in another man for your making, disappointment and failure are inevitable. No matter how well-intentioned a man is, he is still a man and can fail. This is why Isaiah 2: 22 says: Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?
‘Jehovah Hoseenu’, The Lord the Maker, is calling on you today. He wants to make you someone and something that is beyond your imagination. You have tried many things and people to make you, and probably they have failed. But according to Job 35:10: ...none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night. It is time for you to seek God your Maker and He will give you a new song and turn your night into day.
