Meditations: "It is Too Small a Thing ..."

In my quiet time, reading in the Book of Isaiah, I came across a wonderful declaration of God. For your encouragement, I would like to share it with you!

He says, “It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant
To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel;
I will also make You a light of the nations
So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

Isaiah 49:6 [emphasis added mine]

The Holy One of Israel, God the Father who dwells in unapproachable light, is speaking in this portion of His Word of sending His only begotten Son to redeem His people. And clearly states that is not a big enough accomplishment for Him, but will make Him the Light of the world so His salvation will cover all the earth!

This simple phrase - "too small a thing" - lovingly reaches out to thankfully and blessedly draw you and me, dear reader, into our Heavenly Father's provision for our eternal redemption !

As we meditate on this, consider for a moment these portions of God's Word which talk about His creative works and power.

O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
...
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;
What is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?

Yet You have made him a little lower than God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty!

Psalm 8:1-5 [emphasis added mine]

God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

Hebrews 1:1-4 [emphasis added mine]

The Creator of all left the glory of Heaven to become flesh and blood and walk among us, establishing Himself as the the Way, the Truth and the Life. With His finished work on the Cross serving as the sole source of salvation and redemption, by which fellowship with our Heavenly Father is fully restored to what it was always intended to be.

"Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Philippians 2:5-11

Can the natural mind of man fully comprehend these words and the depth of their meaning? On the authority of His Word we read here, I would suggest to you the answer is "No!" We cannot ...

Rather than attempt to "reason it out," we are called to walk by faith, without which it is impossible to please Him. And rest in peace knowing:

"Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? Or who has first given to Him that it might be paid back to him again? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen."

Romans 11:33-36
