Shikhar Dhawan's timing is spot on.

Shikhar Dhawan averages over 45 in ODIs and then strikes them at close to 130 in T20Is. Virat Kohli's machine-like scoring ability and Rohit Sharma's wizardry often leaves the left-hander under heightened scrutiny. Dhawan often finds himself as a sidekick - he was that to David Warner for Sunrisers Hyderabad and is to Rohit for India. He received a vote of confidence on the eve of the game when Kohli stressed that "in one-day cricket, don't think there's any issues or doubts over Rohit or Shikhar opening together". He could have easily come into the ODI series thinking his career was at crossroads. But since then, he's got four half-centuries and has two 90-plus scores in his last eight ODI innings in ODI's. He has been in good form since the 2019 World Cup, when he smashed Australia in Mohali, he had no 50-plus runs in his previous eight innings across formats before that. He said: "I try and find good things out of every situation. I was quite positive that when I get an opportunity I can score runs"

India scored 105 off 102 in their first innings at Old Trafford. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli put on a solid platform for India to build on. Dhawan was dropped at point twice and hit a six over the mid-wicket fence. The left-hander was eventually caught off a short ball from Ben Stokes . India had managed just 15 runs in the first six with captain Rohit Sharma struggling to recover from a blow to the elbow. The tourists were bowled out for 102 after being put in to bat by England . The hosts went on to win by eight wickets after losing the toss and batting first in the second innings .
