Engineers who are part of the technology team at the University of California, United States, took the initiative to use the same prototype that insects have when staying on a vertical surface which is called electrostatic adhesion and thus, create a device called Cockroach Robot.

The mechanism of this robot is characterized by the agility and speed it has at the time of crossing a terrain that has more than 100 hectares, thus surpassing the cockroach robot they designed two years ago. It should be mentioned that, the first prototype could only travel a flat surface that did not exceed 3 kilometers of distance, this being the exact distance that cockroaches travel.

For the creation of this new robotic insect, the engineers added electrostatic pads located on the legs. Similarly, in the application of high and low voltage there are other types of pads whose purpose is to increase or failing that, accelerate the electrostatic force that is required at the time the robot is operational on the intended surface.

It should be noted that, the cockroach robot is fully attached to the base of the pads therefore, the legs can rotate and leave the perception that it is actually a cockroach. In the same way, thanks to these pads you can also control the rotation that the device will have.

Now, at the time of executing the maneuvers, they discovered that it is possible to create devices that mark the speed of all the tiny animals and thanks to that, it was also possible to know the existence of other species or curiosities of the animal kingdom little visible to the human eye. Engineers comment that, this cockroach robot is the size of a postage stamp and the speed of its movements is as if 20 bodies moved in a second.

In the same way, this device was designed to withstand a footprint that exceeds 60 kilograms and the purpose of this is because, they have plans to use several cockroach robots in jungle areas, swamps and the desert noting that, in these places there are heavy species and in case of detecting the robot, it can step on them for that reason to avoid losing the device, they decided to take care of any particularity that affects the mission.

Experts in Robotics Engineering affirm that, the main strength of this device is that its design is simple, tiny, agile, fast and efficient for any study you want to undertake. This is because it was made with a thin sheet of polyvinylidene fluoride, this being a material capable of expanding and at the same time, contracting with just a small contact of alternating current.

A curious fact that we can know about this robot is that, thanks to the expansion and contraction, the cockroach robot increases its speed and at the time of adding an additional front leg, accompanied by a layer of elastic polymer, it is observed how the leaves that allow to visualize the wings are driven towards the direction assigned to it.

This cockroach robot is currently already being used and to get it to mobilize, they also equipped it with gas sensors since, its first mission is to carry out search and rescue operations in the war that is developing between Ukraine and Russia.

Finally, it is necessary to mention that, in this mission, they assigned 23 devices and daily use 5 because the energy duration works up to 19 hours, thus mobilizing in a perimeter of 1,500 hectares with a rest interval of 2 hours.
