One of the most renowned civilizations in antiquity is the Greek whose extension developed throughout the northeast of the Mediterranean Sea, areas that we currently know as Greece and Turkey. Similarly, this civilization spread through the islands of Sicily, Crete, Rhodes and last but not least Cyprus.
The development of the Minoan civilization began in 2100 BC when the Achaeans, who were a traditional warrior population, made the decision to invade and subdue the Cretans thus becoming the first civilization of Europe formed on the island of Crete.
After the Achaeans organized themselves in Crete, they began to expand throughout the peninsula thus reaching the western coast of Asia Minor and the southern part of Italy. It should be noted that, in the two regions mentioned above, Magna Graecia was formed, where the Hellenes were formed and, the place was called as Ellada or Hellas.
The Greek civilization is known for great feats they did in their formative time, however, what stands out most is the architectural development it had and the philosophical legacy imparted by Aristotle, Plato and Socrates. A key point in the history of this civilization is that they exerted a lot of influence in the formation of the Roman Empire and subsequently spread in several cultures of the West because, various regions that make up the world have their democratic structure.
Regarding the organization that this civilization had, we can highlight that it was organized by small villages and with the passage of time, they evolved into polis, this being the famous city-states and of all, the most important were Athens and Sparta. Similarly, each of these city-states were governed by their own internal organization and legislation, however, this changed with the emergence of the democratic system of government.
On the other hand, several of the city-states that were part of the Greek civilization had activities in common which were the Panhellenic games, curiously, this dynamic served as inspiration in the creation of the Olympic Games and, little by little, evolved to those we know today.
Greek civilization was made up of several systems of government highlighting monarchy, aristocracy, oligarchy, tyranny and democracy. Each of these stages had ups and downs during its development thus allowing the advance of civilization not to come to an end. Referring to religion, it was of a polytheistic type and the premise they always handled was related to the cult of various deities.
The people who lived in the Greek civilization, were governed by the supreme god, this being Zeus and although the priests were in charge of taking care of the cults that were carried out, these did not constitute a church or clergy. It should be noted that, Zeus ruled the gods who were on Olympus and, they were in charge of intervening in the daily life of the inhabitants.
To conclude, keep in mind that Greek religion has no links with Greek mythology because, the latter only refers to the traditional tales that emerged and although they were constantly related, the reality is that they have no relationship.
