Palm oil is known to be a global commodoty that is in a very high demand. It is a commodity that every household needs to make a delicious meal. Its nutrional contents are also very good to the nourishment of the body. A meal would not be complete until the oil is added to it.
This commodity is fast depleting due to urbanization or development coming close to the rural areas where there are oil palm plantations. Having the plantation reqires large portions of land. Where the oil palm is planted in large numbers and on large portions of land, more oil would be produced and vice-versa.
Now because of this fast depletion in arising from the cutting down of the oil palm trees, the oil is now scarce and prices has gone high. The commodity is really essential one and demand would always be there.

Engaging in the palm oil production business is lucrative but a lot of hardwork is required to be done. The business would be easier if you have oil palm plantation so you would not need to source for oil palm fruits. But where you do not have the plantation, you go all out to source for the fruits to be used for the production of oil.
To source for the oil palm fruits, You go to find individuals who have oil palm plantations. They should be duely matured, riped, and ready to be harvested. After ensuring that they are due, you can now enter into agreement to one month to six months purchase agreement. Or if you have more money, you can go into one or more years purchase agreement.
If you enter into agreement of more than a year, the fruits could be harvested on monthly basis till the expiration which is renewable.

Another step taken in this business is to source for harvesters. They the ones who would climb the oil palm trees to cut them down. They charge a specific amount for one tree. So you pay them the amonut for one tree multiplied by the agreed amount. There are other workers that you also need like those who would pick the fruits and bring them out from the plantation or bush.
Depending on the size of the business, if it is medium to large business, more workers would be needed. They may have the following workers:
- The oil palm fruit cuters
- The fruit pickers
- Drivers
- Main factory workers
In the case of small business like our own shown in this article, we are just few that manage the business. We do not have the plantation and so we go on purchase for between 2 to six months. Every month, we go for harvesting of the riped oil palm fruits. We hire few labourers like the cuters, pickers and those that assists us do the manual seperation . The rest of the remaining processes are carried out three of us who are the owners of the oil palm production.

We process the oil with locally fabricated machines as we can not afford the big processing machines for the oil production. But this does not mean that we not thinking of expanding the business. We are still growing and are puting our expansion plans together. These plans include:
Working out ways to Securing or having our own oil palm plantation
Buying a vehicle that would transport the fruits from where they are cut to the processing site.
Buying the processing machines
Securing a permanent site to that would serve as a point of distribution
We will also hire more workers to handle some other sections we are not currently covering.
There a lot of other plans we have but it will take us some time to get there. It is a gradual process and so we are taking the steps bit by bit.
