Mohanpur Upazila of Rajshahi district is famous for betel. Here, it is among the principal crops. Since betel is a long-term and profitable crop, the farmers here are uncompromising in caring for betel plantations. This betel is known as the traditional agricultural product of the upazila. The unemployed youth and local people of this upazila are economically self-sufficient by cultivating betel.

Not only that, there is a demand for this betel all over Bangladesh. Every day, betel markets are held in various upazila markets. Farmers take betel to these markets, and many people make a profit by selling it at a good price. Farmers are getting great success by cultivating betel leaves in the village fields with their talent and initiative.

There are several big betel leaves markets including Mougachi in the upazila. From here, big traders from different parts of the country buy betel leaves and supply them to different parts of the country as per demand. The betel leaves of Mohanpur are very delicious, so the betel leaves here are called sweet betel leaves. This betel leaf cultivation is increasing day by day due to its convenience in selling in the local market and being more profitable than other crops.

Now betel leaves are Rajshahi's primary cash crop. The betel leaves produced here are sent to various countries in Europe including the Middle East. The income from cultivating betel leaves on four and a half thousand hectares of land is about two thousand crore taka. Such a profitable crop on less land is no longer available in the Rajshahi region. If you spend two lakh taka on a betel leaf barge of every bigha of land, you can sell betel leaves for at least one million taka. Most betel leaves are cultivated in Durgapur, Mohanpur, and Bagmara areas of Rajshahi. The ordinary daily wage workers and farmers of this upazila are becoming self-sufficient by cultivating these betel leaves.
