Hi friends! Assalamu Alaikum. How are you all? I hope you are well. I am also fine by God's infinite mercy. Today I appear before you like every day. To share avout Tobacco cultivation . I hope you will like it very much.

Tobacco is one of the cash crops of Bangladesh. Tobacco cultivation by Rangpur and Kushtia farmers plays a special role in the economy of this country. Every year the government earns a significant amount of revenue from tobacco and tobacco products. At present, approximately 45 thousand metric tons of tobacco is produced annually in about 67 thousand hectares of land in Bangladesh. Out of this 17-19 thousand hectares are under tobacco cultivation. Most of the tobacco produced in Bangladesh is of poor quality. Apart from Rangpur, Kushtia some tobacco is grown in Jessore, Meherpur, Gangni, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Bogra and Mymensingh areas.

All types of soil grow tobacco. But tobacco grows well in light loamy soil. It is very important that the soil is rich in organic matter. If there is any deficiency of potassium in the soil, the taste, color and smell of tobacco leaves are not good. For this reason, green manure should be applied every 2 years in tobacco cultivation land. Fertile sandy loam soil is the best soil for tobacco cultivation.

the climate

A warm and humid climate is essential for tobacco cultivation. Tobacco is cultivated in different climates in different countries of the world. Tobacco grows best at 21c – 25c. Excessive rain or waterlogging is the most detrimental to tobacco cultivation. Annual rainfall of 1300-2500 mm is better for tobacco cultivation. Air humidity should not be less than 55% during plant growth. If the leaves are big, the air humidity should be a little less. If it rains during the collection of leaves, the quality of the leaves is lower. Tobacco seeds require a temperature above 30c for germination.

fertilizer application

Fertilizer levels per hectare are as follows:

Fertilizer Name Dosage
Urea: 70-90 kg
TSP 50-60”
Potassium Sulphate 70-80”

150 kg of kachuripana ash or 4-7 quintals of common ash can be applied instead of potash fertilizer.
More quantity of dung manure or organic manure has to be applied in tobacco land, it improves the quality of tobacco. However, if sufficient urea or nitrogen is supplied to the field, the quality of tobacco leaves is reduced.
