INTRODUCTION

Hello steemians! It's good to be here. Hope you had a nice time. This is @okokon. This is my first post in this noble community. I'm happy to be part of this community. In this post, I'm going to tell you about my farm from this part of the world, Nigeria. And how I have benefitted so much from farming. Enjoy reading.

Farming has been part of my life since childhood. I grew up in a family that regards farming as a business. Everyone earns a living from farming. Although, I earn a living as a teacher as well, my major source of income is from farming. I have a little farm which I plant cucumber and raise fish in a pond.
I employ the services of my siblings to help me work in this farm. I work here mostly on weekends when I come back from school. My siblings help in planting while I spread pesticides to prevent pests at early stage. This cucumber farm although small, gives me a harvest that can pay my fees and that of my younger sibling in high school.

MY FISH POND

Like I said I divide my farm into two parts-one for planting cucumber and the other for raising fish. My fish pond can contain about 40 fingerlings. Though it's very sensitive to raise fish because of high attention and dedication given to it, I find joy in my fish pond. Most time, my younger siblings take care of the fish pond for me in the morning till when I return from school by 2pm.

I raise tilapia fish that can sell as much as N1500 for one during harvest. On a Friday, sometimes when I teach my students Register on Fishing, I bring them to this fish pond because it is closer to the school. It's always fun watching them learn a lot on how to raise fish.

My little farm has impacted my life in many positive ways -a source of living, majorly. Although I also earn from teaching, this farm has greatly supplemented my daily earnings.

A lot of lessons could be learned from this post. One is that, farming is a lucrative business that can pay your daily bills without much stress. Combining teaching and farming can make you financially independent. I therefore, call on my steemians to embrace farming as a hobby.
