✅Are you a farmer?
Sentence: As a farmer, I feel great to be part of a vital sector that helps the economy. 'I practice palm agriculture, a profession that's not solely for sustenance, but also an ancestral duty inherited across several generations.' To become a palm oil farmer, you need to be hardworking, persistent, and know a lot about the ground and trees.

✅Does your family and area have different types of plants or fertile land?
My family not only focuses on palm oil, but also manages land for other plants such as rubber and local fruits. The area where I live is very fertile, with dark brown soil rich in organic matter. In addition, consistent rainfall throughout the year creates ideal conditions for various types of plants. There are also farmers around who plant rice, chilies, and corn on different lands.

✅What type of crops are mostly grown in your area and how do you grow them?
Oil palm is the main crop in my area. The process of growing oil palm requires planned steps. First, superior seeds are selected to ensure maximum yields. The land is then prepared by clearing weeds and ensuring good drainage. Planting is done at a certain distance to ensure each tree gets enough space, light, and nutrients. Maintenance includes fertilization, weed control, and monitoring for pest attacks. The harvest is usually taken every 10–14 days.

✅How fertile do you think the soil is in your area?
The soil in my area is very fertile. The high mineral and organic matter content supports the growth of oil palm and other plants. However, maintaining soil fertility remains a priority. We routinely use organic fertilizers and implement crop rotation in certain areas to reduce soil degradation. Abundant groundwater is also an important factor in maintaining optimal yields.

✅Finally, please tell us what types of vegetables and crops are grown in your area during the winter.

During the winter, my area tends to grow vegetables that are resistant to colder weather such as spinach, kale, mustard greens, and long beans. Some farmers also start planting shallots and chilies. In addition, fruits such as bananas and papayas remain a choice because they are resistant to seasonal changes. Although oil palms are not affected by winter, maintenance is still carried out to maintain the harvest.

The profession as an oil palm farmer has taught me many things, including the importance of respecting nature and using resources wisely. With the support of fertile soil and a supportive climate, I hope to continue to maintain and increase the harvest for the sustainability of my family and the community around me
