Dubbed ‘Loon', the initiative keeps the balloons in place using machine learning algorithms that have developed their own complex navigational manoeuvres to achieve their mission of providing sustained service to users below.

Pumps fitted to each balloon inflate or deflate it in order to control its position in the sky and make the most of favourable wind conditions. Each balloon is able to deliver internet coverage of over 11,000 square kilometres, around 200 times that of an average cell tower.
