The Italian unit of the International Red Cross Organization announced that they have recently started receiving donations with Bitcoin (BTC). The main purpose of the Red Cross was explained as being able to purchase some of the medical supplies needed to fight Coronavirus cases.

In the announcement by the Red Cross, it was stated that the amount needed was 10,000 Euros and it was stated that this goal was reached exactly three days later. Thanks to this BTC-based donation campaign, the Red Cross managed to collect donations not only from Italy but from all over the world, and in fact showed how cryptocurrencies can be used effectively in times of crisis.
The Red Cross has now begun accepting Bitcoin donations for a different purpose after the goal has been achieved. Stating that there is a great need for critical parts of oxygen devices, the authorities have set a target of 26,000 Euros.
