To me, farming is a good profession because there's a lot if benefit in it. Looking at the farming along with in definition, it's the practice of cultivating land, raising animals, and producing food and other products for human consumption. There is a lot of works involve in farming like planting, irrigating, harvesting crops, raising and caring for livestocks, managing soil health and fertility, controlling pests and diseases, using technology and equipment, marketing and selling farm products. People who are farming doesn't depend on someone because with their farm produce, they I'll be able to make a lot of profits and cater for themselves.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a farmer?

Advantages of being a farmer

One of the major advantage of being a Farmer is that you will be the one taking responsibility of what is happening in your farm, in other word you're the boss. Being a farmer can makes you popular because if there's no farming a country will suffer a lot of high cost of living in terms of food, that's to say farmers is needed to produce food and other essential products.

Farming includes diverse tasks, from planting different types of crops to the time of harvesting, and working with different crops and animals. Today there's lot of innovation which makes farming more easier like using traction in the farm. Most importantly, why would someone work without any benefit, farming is also a profitable business to venture.

Through farming you will have the opportunity in helping other with food in your neighborhood. I remember our compound in our village, we're the only ones who planted hibiscus leaf in our backyard. People always come to pluck it to cook food. We might not be able to share money or food but that little kindness of giving them the hibiscus leaf makes a lot of different.

Disadvantages of being a farmer

The disadvantage of being a farmer is that there's a high start up. For example, you'll need a Land, working tool, how to maintain it, the crops or livestock, and in most cases, you may need to hire labours. So depending on the kind of farming, the start up is usually high.

Another disadvantages is that you can't predict how much to make in your farming because of changes in weather which might affect your farming business.

To be a Farmer you must be able to work for many hours because this farming activity is not easy, from clearing the land, planting, cultivating, sometimes you need to protect it from pest. All this consume a lot of time.

Sometimes you may face stress, pressure, and bad weather conditions. drought, flooding storm are on of the challenges you have to face in farming and sometimes, the market value of that product may drop so badly.

Have you ever done farming before? If yes tell us about your experiences

I have done farming before but with my family. My father bought a land and we use it to plant cassava, maize, pumpkin seeds and water leaf. All this farming were hard to maintain because sometimes in dry season we have to water(irrigation) the water-leaf every week, which is some of the expenses in farming. My grandma uses my Uncle uncompleted building to do a small farming but we were amaze because the place was so fertile. Anytime we went to cultivate cassava, the whole street would be looking at us because of the size of the cassava.

Finally, show us a picture of your farm, it could be a garden, cassava or yam farm etc. And tell us a little story about it.

Like I said, I have been doing farming when I was with my family from water leafs, cassava to banana and plantain plantation, pumpkin seeds, maize and pineapple. Let me talk about water leaf plantation. This one begins by clearing the land, making a bed higher than the floor level, planting the water leaf, and watering it in dry season. There's a lot of money in this business as me and my elder sister usually sells it after school. Our farming were not only for sales, it was for our own consumption as well.

In conclusion, farming is a good profession as it gains a lot of rewards from being the boss to having a profitable business venture. There's also the effects involved in farming like high start up, weather conditions and changes in market prices.
