It’s something that keeps on popping back into my brain in the last week. You know that whole conversation that maybe the universe is just this really elaborate simulation, with us humans just running around like some kind of life and city builder for an advanced futuristic alien race.
I kinda like that idea in many ways, I mean we kinda draw blanks at blank holes in terms of the way time and space are swallowed up, could be even comprehend what would be happening to our bodies, grey matter and physical bodies as we touched over the perihelion anyway?
In recent days I’ve started (in true cabin fever) to see our lives as a component of that simulator but from the perspective for the lenses on life, like the way our subconscious operates seemingly on it’s own autopilot yeah our body and mind seem to spark the right kind of chemistry at the right moments to act out our supposed intentions.

But what if we are simply the projector of this simulator, maybe we have some kind of nascent ability to augment how the world is projected to us, how we project out onto that simulation.
I’m sure we have all seen the break down in the source code of the system many times in our lifetimes already. You were born alone and chances are you’ll die alone, it’s the bits in the middle that give our simulated time clock run on this spinning rock it’s credence, it’s substance, it’s our movie playback of the things we saw in the simply lenses mounted like 120 megapixel cameras to our mind.
Like the flapping sound of a spool of film or the dots in the top corner letting you know that the end of the film is coming and you need to change the tapes maybe we have some controls and abilities of that projector.
Maybe it’s a two way street, maybe we are just alien cctv to the way life around us is operating as we send back crucial data points on how we reacted and acted, maybe we are on some kind of futuristic dashboard point scoring red and green, good and bad, maybe their currency is pure emotions over negative sentiment.
Projectors can project their version of events, they can record events that have unfolded but what else is possible, is it possible to upgrade or augment the firmware as we understand it to the voyeur of life with all it’s trinkets of data or are we able to side chain that with other inputs.
It’s very easy in these ‘told you so’ moments to be transported back to a time without these distractions we have around us, multiple methods of projecting out, inspecting in and getting lost in the white noise overwhelm of streams, it can suffocate and overwhelm.
As we head to the million people on planet earth infected with corona and the thirty thousand people you’ll never get to meet and understand their role in how they projected their uniqueness on this planet consider your own simulation.
Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to upgrade the projector.
