Some of the band's anthems, such as the poignant "Nothing Matters", are taken from this album. But there was one song in particular that stood out: "Enter Sandman." It was written by James Hetfield, but had to be rewritten after close supervision by Lars Ulrich and Bob Rock. Talking about a sensitive topic like SIDS didn't seem like as good an idea as James thought, so he used his anger to write another story. "Enter Sandman" tells the story of childhood fears and nightmares like a sad lullaby. The song's protagonist, "The Sandman," is a mythological character who sneaks into children's bedrooms and throws sand in their eyes. The track was catchy and a real contender for an album single, but Bob Rock wasn't entirely convinced.
At Lars' insistence, he ended up doing it, convinced that the song was the perfect cover letter for Metallica's latest album. His instincts did not disappoint them and in fact they achieved a good position on the world charts. "Enter Sandman" was heard everywhere and "The Black Album" sold non-stop. They have reached new milestones in their careers.
There are many controversial opinions about this period. Some sections of the public felt that it was more commercial than "strip" and that it had achieved a very high status. It is true that they have left their 100% thrash metal sound behind, but it cannot be denied that “Higher Than You” and “Through The Never” are clear evidence that they have not forgotten their roots. On the other hand, it was a positive development because Metallica was able to establish itself as one of the pillars of metal. It showed that I can't have just one or two records. And "Enter Sandman" is a song that sums up that sound perfectly. 30 years later, they pay tribute to the album with a charity edition in which 53 artists from various genres participate. Other surprises include performances of "Enter Sandman" by other musicians such as Juanes and Ghost.
