Legendary guitarist Dick Dale

Legendary guitarist Dick Dale, known as the king of surf rock. His pulsating, fast-paced, reverb-laden singing is his trademark. Although his influence became the basis for the development of this style, adopted by figures such as The Ventures or The Beach Boys, and his discography includes dozens of albums over 50 years, most remember him for his classic Misirlou.

The song, recorded by his band The Deltones, was a hit in 1963, but it was Quentin Tarantino who gave it new meaning by including it as the opening theme of the classic 1994 film Pulp Fiction. Tarantino's films are notable for their outstanding choices musicals, as well as for his constant references to other directors and styles.

Not many people know the story behind this song. Misirlou (meaning "Egyptian woman" in Arabic) is a 19th-century Greek folk song in the popular style known as Rebetik, the earliest recording of which dates back to 1927 by Tetos Dimitriadis. There are several versions of this song, but Dick Dale's furious rendition made it even more popular. It is worth remembering that Los Shains, led by Gerardo Manuel and Pico Ego Aguirre, created their own version in our country in 1964. Of course, we cannot forget the Black Eyed Peas' success, Pump It.
