Hi steemians,
I am delighted to participate in this contest organised by @ruthjoe. This educative contest is based on agriculture and adds to what we already know. So, here is my contribution to the above contest topic.
Cassava harvested by the farmer last year June 2024
The above image was taken last year when I contacted the farmer to get cassava stems for planting. The man told me to come on the weekend because they would be harvesting some. I went there, collected the stems, and cut them into sections. I planted them on the land I cultivated. Unfortunately, my cassava did not grow well due to the absence of rain in the first week of July. Cassava is very common worldwide, particularly in Nigeria, where it is used to make bread, garri (also known as cassava flour), and other products.
Other countries also use it to make various things for the benefit of their people. Cassava is a root vegetable that offers many health benefits and serves as a source of energy, giving us strength to perform certain activities. However, if consumed raw, it can be dangerous to our health because it contains harmful chemicals.
Healthy cassava
Nigeria was among the top producers of cassava in the world because they have good soil to yield the cassava process. People in Nigeria like tapioca where some people make it in their various houses, and those who don't have the ability to prepare it buy it from sellers in nearby shops. It is sweet, especially when you add sugar and milk. Cassava has a lot of benefits because it contains vitamin C, which helps to reduce stress and supports the normal functioning of our immune system. Taking cassava as food protects our skin from damage, helping us look healthy all the time.
Additionally, cassava must be cooked before eating; eating cassava raw in large quantities can damage our organs and sometimes may cause death. Some people may soak the cassava in water to reduce the chemicals before consuming it as food to give us more strength.
Cassava is considered the best investment by farmers because the cassava you already planted may take 1 or 2 years to mature. By the time you harvest it, the price of cassava may increase in the market, and many farmers who have cassava at that time can make a lot of money.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post I would like to invite @abisolami, @jasminemary and @chilaw to come and participate in this contest.
