Hi Friends,

I hereby participate in this amazing contest hosted in the Steem-Agro community. Agriculture is very important; without it, there will be hunger or malnutrition in human society. Farmers must be treated well by equipping them with equipment so that food can be surplus.

What do you understand by Traditional Agriculture

Traditional agriculture has been in existence for a long time which passed from one generation to another. Local farmers continue to practice it today to support their families and produce a large quantity of food to feed a large population. Farmers use cow manure to grow their plants instead of using chemical fertilizers. They apply local knowledge and techniques to enhance sustainability. Some farmers prefer traditional farming over modern farming, which relies heavily on scientific methods.

Mention those traditional/semi-modern Agricultural tools and its uses

There are different local farming tools that farmer use to cultivate the land for their crops. The following are traditional agricultural tools:

Traditional agricultural toolsUses
1. ShovelThis agricultural tool are use to carry trash and break up the soil
2. CutlassIt use to cutting weed in the farmland
3. HoeIt is use to harvest crop in the farm such as yam, maize and so on.
4.WheelbarrowThis farm tool is used by the farmers to carry farm products from one place to another.
5. SprayersLocal farmers use sprayers to spread chemical on their plant.
6. Watering canGardner and local farmers use this tool to apply water to their plant.
7. SickleThis agricultural tool are use to cut weed for domestic animals like sheep, goat and cow. They also it to harvest crops such rice and wheat.

What are those Agricultural practices that you have come to see or practice

As a farmer, agricultural practices are very important, ranging from land preparation by clearing the weeds and cultivating the land. After that, local farmers can sow the seeds using their hands. Animal manure is applied to the plants so that they can grow and yield crops until reaching maturity. Some farmers also use water irrigation to grow their plants, which happens when they connect to a source such as a well, pond, or dam. Over-irrigation is very dangerous, particularly if it is left uncontrolled. Irrigation normally occurs in northern Nigeria when there is an absence of rain. Local farmers use this method to increase food production in the country.

Weeds can be removed manually by using our hands so that our crops have more space to germinate. Harvesting can happen when our crops are fully mature. During the period of harvesting, local farmers try their best to separate grains from chaff. Storage is necessary to protect the crop from rodents and other insects.

I would like to invite @rossnenye, @wuddi and @bonaventure24 to come and participate in this contest.
