In your own words, what is photosynthesis, and what importance is it in agriculture?

The process whereby green plants, alge manufacture their food through sunlight, chlorophyll, water and carbon dioxide is known as photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis importance in agriculture?

Photosynthesis plays a crucial role in

• Plant growth: The leaves, roots and stem in a plant is as the results of the presence of photosynthesis.

• Food production: It provides glucose necessary for plant growth and development. The glucose is what provides nutrients and energy for human and animals to consumed.

• Water purification: Water purification is absorbed with the presence of photosynthesis while oxygen is released which helps to maintain water quality.

• Crop yield: The improvement of crops is as a result of photosynthesis.

• Soil health: It provides stability to the soil, prevent erosion and also give benefits to microorganisms.

What are the key essential nutrients required by plants, and what role does each of them play in plant growth?

The health of the plant will be affected if there's no nutrients in them, in order to have a proper plants growth, development and reproduction, there are many essential nutrients needed and this nutrient are group into two parts. The macronutrients(visible) and the micronutrients(invisible)

  Macronutrients

• Magnesium (Mg): The essential for nutrient intake and cell wall structure

• Sulfur (S): Essential for disease resistance and amino acid synthesis.

• Nitrogen (N): Nutrient responsible for production of chlorophyll, amino acids and nucleic acid

• Calcium (Ca): This involves nutrient transportation, root growth and cell wall development.

• Phosphorus (P): Nutrients for energy transfer(ATP), root development and DNA synthesis

   Micronutrients

• Manganese (Mn): Essential nutrient that involves stress tolerance, photosynthesis and enzymes activity.

• Boron (B): The nutrients here is for hormones regulation and cell wall development

• Nickel (Ni): This involve plant growth, nitrogen metabolism and enzymes activity.

• Iron (Fe): Essential for nutrient transport, chlorophyll production and photosynthesis.

• Molybdenum (Mo): Is for nutrient intake, nitrogen fixation and enzymes activity.

Briefly explain this terminologies; ¹"mixed farming" and ²"crop rotation."

Mixed Farming is the process of combining multiple crops alongside with raising of livestock on the same farm. Examples of a mixed farming are corn, rye, beans, and also keep poultry, pigs, sheeps.

While

Crop Rotation is the process of planting different crops on the same farm in order to improve soil fertility, optimize water usage, increase crop yields, reduce pest and disease.

Explain three (3) roles of agriculture in your country.

Agriculture is the major source of survival in Nigeria, it importance cannot be overstated.

1. Food Security: There is availability of food like cassava, maize, vegetables, rice are available in the country to strives away hungry in many homes expecially the farmers family.

2. Foreign Exchange Earnings: Through exporting of cash crops such as the rubber, Cocoa and cashews, the country is generating foreign exchange from this crops.

3. Employment opportunities: The rate of unemployment in Nigeria has reduced due to Agriculture which create Jobs and income people.

Human sustainance on earth is through Agriculture. It has a very crucial role in making people to survive.
