What role have drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) played in modernizing agriculture? Use your country as an example if applicable.

The drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) making a great contribution in agriculture. The use of drones in agriculture is the sign of advance farming. The use of drones in agriculture makes the work of farmers very easy and enables them to obtaing good yield from their crops. Drones are revolutionizing the agriculture by increasing efficiency, reducing costs and by enhancing decision making. In this modern age the use of drones in agriculture is remarkable as it helps to detect the diseases from crops. A farmer can not know the actual area of disease causing in the crops. In this matter drones help us a lot as drones can easily detect stress, disease and attack of pests on crops.

If I talk about my country Pakistan, as I'm living in a country of which economy depends a lot on agriculture. Ofcourse the farmers of my country are going to advance farming and are erg to use modern technology in agriculture. Honestly I have not seen the use of any drone in my area but the farmers who are doing agriculture on large scale are using drones . Because they have no any financial issue as compare to the farmers of small scale and they can purchase this modern tool easily. They are using these drones in detection of disease, attack of pests in crops, for crop spraying, yield prediction, soil mapping and also for checking the nutrients in the soil. In future the use of these drones may be more common as compared to present days.

How do drones contribute to precision and efficiency in agricultural practices? What are the key benefits of using drones in agriculture?

Drones are contributing a lot in precision and efficiency of agriculture by helping in making decisions at time. Drones help on accurate monitoring of crops like the areas where is more stress, more chances of disease or attack of pests, this all can be monitored by drones easily. This after monitoring farmers are be aware and take decisions at time for protecting their crops. They use fertilizers at specific time by monitoring their crops thus the they prevent from wastage of their fertilizers. Drones also helps for detecting of moisture in the soil and helps farmers to irrigate their fields at time. In this way drones are contributing in increasing efficiency and precision of agriculture.

Key benefits of using drones in agriculture

From first day farmers try their best for getting excellent yield from their crops and for this they use different fertilizers and other technology in agriculture. Their are many benefits of using drones in agriculture:

1. Crop monitoring:

As we discuss above that drones helps in crop monetoring by using by using multispectral and hyperspectral imaging for analysis of crops health. Also track growth stages and development.

2. Soil mapping:

Drones helps in monitoring soil moisture levels and high resolution soil type. Helps in preventing wastage of water and fertilizers.

3. Crop spraying:

Drones helps in spraying the crops, the spray process done by drones prevents damaging plants in the crops. Spraying system become very easy by the use of drones.

4. Yield prediction:

When farmers do farming by making a strategy they can be predict the yield of their crops. Drones helps in yield prediction and also give planning of harvesting crops.

How do drones help manage soil moisture and nutrient levels in crops?

The managent of soil moisture and nutrient levels is very crucial for obtaining high yield. Drone helps a lot in managing both soil moisture and nutrient levels.

Soil Moisture management:

  1. Multispectral and hyperspectral imaging assess the level of moisture in the soil.
  2. Than thermal imaging detect the temperature variation which indicates the soil moisture.
  3. Some sensors called soil sensors measure the moisture level.
  4. After analysing the data collected through drones, irrigating process is applied.
  5. Proper irrigating process occurs thus the moisture in the soil is managed.

Nutrient levels:

  1. Multispectral monitor the crop health, also monitor the levels of nutrients in crop.
  2. With the help of hyperspectral the deficiency of nutrients in crop is detected.
  3. By using drones the sample of soil is collected and tested for nutrients level.
  4. Than specific fertilizers are applied containing deficient nutrients.
Explain the significance of multispectral and hyperspectral imaging sensors in agricultural drones.

Multispectral and hyperspectral imaging are two methods for monitoring the crops.

Multispectral Imaging (MSI):

  1. Multispectral Imaging detects 3-5 spectral bands.
  2. Provides vegetative indices for analysing of crop health.
  3. Best for soil mapping, crop monitoring and yield prediction.

Significance:

  1. Increase the yield of crop.
  2. Enhanced decision making.
  3. Increase efficiency.
  4. Reduce chemicals usage.
  5. Environmental sustainability.

Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI):

  1. Monitor 100s to 1000s spectral bands.
  2. HSI provides high capacity of detecting diseases and crop identification.
  3. It is useful for advance crop monitoring, mapping of soil, detection of soil moisture and precision farming.
  4. More accuracy upon multispectral imaging.

Significance:

  1. Detection of fungal diseases in wheat.
  2. Increases the yield.
  3. Increase efficiency in crops.
  4. More accurate for soil mapping, detection of disease and monitoring soil moisture.
Conclusion

In this modern era, we need to use advanced methods of agriculture. So that we can meet with needs of food in the world. Using of drones in agriculture makes agriculture very easy and also many other tools that are being used nowadays for increasing yield in agriculture. It is very nice competition and I participated in it with very pleasure. At the end I'm inviting @stef1, @abdullahw2, @josepha and @mohammadfaisal for participating in this contest.

Observations and suggestions:

. Drones have a way of improving and enhancing agriculture through its vital roles in depening sustainability. Roles like precision farming, labour cost reduction, pest and disease detection, and management are improved through drone use. Though the use of drone may be limited except for those in commercial farming. Its benefits cannot be overemphasized. Good explanation.
. Good explanation of soil nutrient and mositure. The Thermal tool, multispectral/hyperspectral imaging sensors are of great use.
. Generally, you have a good post presentation. Thank you for your participation.
