INTRODUCTION

Hello Steemians, I am Super excited to be a part of this timely contest. ***. **** Yes, it is a timely one because it requires a quick response and it's spreading it wings like a mighty fire in a fueled bush. In my opinion, Climatic change is one of the greatest cancer fighting against the ecosystem, economy, and human livelihood to mention but a few. The effects of climate change is alarming and calls for immediate intervention as crops production rate is reducing, livestocks reproduction are depreciating and some wild animals are going into extinction. It is based on this that I intend to answer two striking questions

What is Climate changeWhat are the effects of climate change in Agriculture
Definition of climate change

This can be defined as the long term changed in atmospheric conditions such as; temperature, sunshine, rainfall, humidity etc due to the result of human activities such as deforestation, bush burning, environmental pollution, burning of fossil, industrialization and green house emission etc. These activities in most cases releases harmful substances such as Carbon(iv)oxide, Methane gas, Carbon(ii)oxide etc into the atmosphere. The released gases traps heat in the atmosphere thus leading to global warming or put simply the depletion of Ozone layer. Though natural occurrence such as volcano eruption may as well cause climate change, human activities are mostly attributed to the present day depletion in ozone layer. The outcome of climate change ranges from Extreme Heat due to excess sun, Excess or low rainfall, humidity etc

Effect of Climate Change on Agriculture

The effects of climate change in agriculture is indeed a global concern as crop productivity, soil value, pest control, water quality are highly affected in a more detailed way, the following are the effects of climate change in agriculture:

Reduction in Crop productivity

Effective crop productivity is always a function of normal rainfall, sunshine, and Normal heat etc. instances where there is unpredictable (low or extreme) rainfall, droughts, extreme heat due to excess sun light, the yielding and productivity of crops is always greatly affected resulting in low crop yield. When this happens, one could attributed the cause to climate change.

Alterations in soil quality/value

An effective soil should have a PH of about 7, resistance to erosion so as to hold enough and sufficient manure. It should be highly fertile for Agricultural processes. However, climate change could be excess Sunlight which kills and drys up substances that would have decayed and enrich the soil. In essence, the effects of climate change could be seen on erosion, loss of fertility, and salinization to mention but a few.

Pest and Disease Outbreaks

Research and experience reveals that warmer temperatures favours the survival and existence of pest and diseases on Agricultural products which inturns causes great damages.

Livestock ineffectiveness

Livestock such as birds are always allergic to excess heat as it affects their productivity and yielding. In the same vein, excess rainfall may also lead to low productivity this showing the effects of climate change.

Water Scarcity

Fluctuations in rainfall specifically, when there's no rainfall leads to water scarcity as the soil will be dried, and both plants and animals would be dehydrated and seeking for water to hydrate themselves. A time may where the plants and livestocks may die up if the scarcity persists.

Ways of preventing and controlling Climate change:

Doing away from Deforestation i.e, the illicit cutting down of forest trees while providing afforestation i.e the planting of forest trees.

Effective water management strategies should be employed. Strategies such as water cycling are good and innovative strategies

Avoiding unnecessary burning of fossil fuels except when need be

Planting of cover crops to help in reserving an shading the soil from direct sunlight and erosion

Practicing conversation of Agricultural products to avoid loosing all the historic and valuable animals to extinction.

Worships and conference should be help on the effects and causes of climate change so as to help in educating the public

Conclusions

The issue of climate change is that which calls for immediate intervention and every individuals should be in a standby to fight against elements and factors that would prone to negative climate change.

Deforestation is not always illegal; there is also legal deforestation that can still have negative impacts if not managed properly. It is better to "Avoid uncontrolled deforestation and encourage reforestation through sustainable tree planting."

Thanks so much for this
