What are the types of agricultural practices? Briefly explain two.

Evidently, there are different ways of practicing agriculture throughout the globe, and to suit various productions conditions and crops. Two broad categories are known as conventional farming and organic farming.

And first is conventional farming which is one that has been practiced for a long time, normally not using large scale, machinery and technology intensive practices. It mostly depends on factors such as rain and conventional practices of crop husbandry to replenish soil nutrient regime. Indeed, it is rather in conventional farm practices that sustainable forms of agriculture can be observed, though they may be less productive and efficient as well.

In contrast sustainable agriculture aims at the long-term possessive effector of the natural environment and reasonable profitability. So this method include agronomic practices like crop intercropping, Soil management, pest and disease control, and water management. Sustainable agriculture focuses on soil and the role of production inputs, together with the quality of agricultural products, in the content and the overall availability of agricultural produce, such that future generations’ agricultural requirements will not be threatened.

I think that maintaining healthy soil is important for several reasons first is that soil is beneficial to plant growth because it supplies nutrients, can retain moisture and allows the roots to fix themselves. And they are also useful to filter C02, or to sequester carbon and hence reducing climate change. That healthy soil supports biological organisms that are important in maintaining the ecosystem.

And besides, there is an enhancement on water quality since the pollutants are checked from getting into the water resource so loss of soils is also avoided in a healthy soil hence diminishing soil erosion hence reduced loss of arable land so in conclusion, healthy soil for sustainable agriculture, conservation of biological diversity, climate change adaptation and climate smart environment is very crucial.

Explain the two main types of farming.

Normally there are basically two categories of farming: subsistence farming and commercial farming.

1. Emaciated farming is when farmers cultivate crops and rear animals for their own consumption and that of their households without many products left over to market and such farming practice is often practiced in the developing nations and is characterized by conventional techniques and limited scale input.

2. On the other hand, commercial farming is regarded as business production of crops and rearing of animal products for markets. And typically it can be practiced on a large scale with the development and use of advanced tools to enhance high returns because the industrialised farming business is common in the developed nations and is a key driver of the food industry.

What are greenhouses? Mention two types of greenhouse.

Greenhouse is a controlled plant growing structure that maintains specific conditions of temperature, humidity and light. And they enable the production of crops throughout the year with proper production protection from climatic vagaries.

1. Traditional Greenhouses: These are green housings whose construction are mainly of glass or plastic panels surrounded by single frame so that light can penetrate while at the same time housing heat for the plants’ growth.

2. Hydroponic Greenhouses: Some of these employ hydroponics as a method of plant farming without requiring the host medium we know as soil, but rather nutrient enhanced water solutes and they make little use of water and it is possible to get high yields under a more managed setting.
