Greeting my dear steemian friends. Bangladesh is a major agricultural country and a large part of the people in this country earn their livelihood by doing agricultural work. One of the driving forces of Bangladesh's economy revolves around agriculture and the main topic of today's challenge is "ROLE OF AGRICULTURE IN THE ECONOMY". I am very happy to participate in such a wonderful educational contest on agriculture. So I thank the organizers for organizing the contest by choosing such a wonderful topic. Now I am starting to write my homework on these wonderful topics in agriculture.

a. Explain the social and industrial roles of agriculture in your country, sighting one of the main grown crop.

I would like to highlight the social roles of agriculture first because we all know that Bangladesh is an agriculture dependent country. About 85% of the people of Bangladesh depend on agriculture and people of various professions also do agricultural work on their fallow land. We get 90% of the total food of Bangladesh from agriculture which shows the importance of agriculture in our country. From the agriculture of our country we get food, clothing which is very important for our survival. Various crops including paddy, wheat, corn, tea, tobacco, jute, mustard are cultivated in our country and the food and clothing industry we get from all the crops fulfills the needs of our Bangladeshi people. Bengali has a common saying and that is "Bengali in fish and rice". Through this word, it can be understood that our people of Bangladesh are socially dependent on agriculture.

On the other hand, if we talk about the agricultural industry, the golden crop or golden fiber jute comes first. Bangladesh uses this jute every year in the textile industry and exports this jute abroad to earn a lot of foreign exchange which further strengthens the industrial sector of Bangladesh. Apart from jute, Bangladesh also exports various other crops to meet the needs of its own country, which can earn Bangladesh foreign exchange. Moreover Agriculture of our country plays a very important role for garment industry. Bangladesh's textile and tea industries in particular depend on agriculture for survival and these two items are in high demand among the people of Bangladesh and they are also exported abroad to meet the needs of Bangladesh.

b. How has this main grown agriproduct helped in reducing poverty and as well promote rural development in your country?

First of all, looking at the world market at present, it is seen that the prices of various products, including food, are on the rise. But in this case the most important thing for our survival is food and in this world people struggle most for food. And most of the money people earn is spent on food. And people spend extra money to increase the price of all food products in the food market. In this case, if we cultivate crops that meet the needs of our country in our fallow land, then we will be able to meet our food needs in addition to an employment, and besides meeting our own family food needs, we will be able to earn extra money by selling it in the market.

If every family has a strong relationship with agriculture then there will be no shortage of food in our country and our country's economy will benefit the most in this regard. As we will be able to provide our own food by doing agriculture on our fallow land and on the other hand we will be able to earn foreign exchange by exporting the surplus food abroad which will play an important role for the development of our country's economy. By cultivating valuable crops like paddy, wheat, maize, tea and jute, we can play an important role in the economic development of the country besides creating our own jobs. Which can be a very useful medium for me and my country.

c. What are the main challenges facing your country's top crops (e.g., cocoa, palm, maize, wheat, rice, etc.) in terms of economic impact?

One of the most valuable agricultural crops produced in our country are: paddy, wheat, maize, tea, jute etc. All these crops meet the food and clothing needs of the people of our country and are exported abroad. However, for the production of these top crops, the farmers of our country have to face several challenges. Because Bangladesh is a country of seasonal climate and every year there is a change in the climate of this country so that different crops grow well in our country depending on the season. For example, at present, we have heavy rains in different parts of Bangladesh and due to this rain, there is a huge loss of various crops in the field. Therefore, before producing any crop, we have to keep in mind the quality of the soil, selection of crops based on weather and region, taking measures to eliminate pests, etc. Facing all these problems or challenges, a skilled farmer grows crops in his home and laughs the last laugh.

d. What current or past government initiatives are boosting agricultural productivity in your country?"

In 2020, the then Minister of Agriculture took great initiatives to continue agricultural production, agricultural mechanization and marketing and marketing of agricultural products in the situation caused by the coronavirus. Md: Abdur Razzak MP. He said that the agriculture-friendly government under the leadership of the then Hon'ble Prime Minister had allocated Tk 9000 crore for subsidies in the agricultural sector including fertilisers, irrigation, horticulture for the benefit of the farmers. Also, fertilizers, pesticides are being provided at low cost to poor farmers to improve their farming. In addition to this, government funds were provided to enable farmers to purchase advanced technology water irrigation machines, tractors and modern paddy harvesting equipment so that poor farmers could pay for the equipment purchased on an annual basis. Also various suggestions and medicines were given considering the health of the farmers or to avoid risking the health of the farmers while working in the fields. Even today, the government helps the farmers so that they succeed in producing more crops.

e. What solutions can enhance agricultural productivity and growth in your country?

The agricultural productivity of the country can be increased by selecting crops based on the season mainly by testing the quality of the soil. I have already said that Bangladesh is a country with a monsoon climate that has six seasons in a year. Moreover, Bangladesh is a natural disaster prone country that can deal with various natural disasters including floods, droughts, storms, floods, finding all the crop varieties and finding crops that can survive in saline hostile regions. I think if we can do seasonal crop production with natural calamities then we can increase the productivity of our agriculture.

Moreover, the level of crop production can be increased by applying proper pesticides and fertilizers to the land and cultivating the crop with proper understanding of the cultivated crops. Basically in the field of crop production a farmer has to spend days through hard work and all the time has to look after the crop field. A farmer has to be aware of the weeds and various crop diseases in the crop field.A farmer has to be always aware of the issues of land cultivation, crop planting, water irrigation, fertilizer application, pesticide application, timely harvesting etc. and by solving all these problems a farmer can get a good reward for his hard work.
