Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #2"

Halo teman-teman. Hari ini aku berpartisipasi pada kontes Steem-agro Contest: "Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #2". Aku mengajak teman-teman untuk mengikuti kontes ini @patjewell @walictd @furqanarr @zulbahri.

What are the importance of soil testing in agriculture?

This soil testing process is carried out to accurately estimate the potential for planting various types of plants. Farmers or producers can minimize the risk of loss through thorough preparation from the start.

Soil fertility cannot be predicted by the naked eye. As a layman, you can maintain land fertility through various efforts before conducting simple soil testing or through a test laboratory.

  • Providing organic fertilizers whose ingredients come directly from nature.
  • Reducing the use of pesticides or other chemicals to reduce the risk of land infertility.
  • Do not litter because it can disrupt the balance of nutrients in the land.
  • If possible, making terracing on the land will greatly assist land fertilization efforts.

Define Soil Erosion and Soil Leaching

Leaching is the process of soil nutrients being lost along with water, caused by high rainfall. While erosion is the process of the top layer of soil being eroded due to several natural factors. Both phenomena reduce soil fertility.

Erosion is not the same as weathering, which is the process of destroying rock minerals by chemical or physical processes or a combination of both. In general, erosion involves three processes, namely detachment, transformation, and sedimentation.

Erosion can form many interesting natural features such as mountain peaks, valleys and coastlines. Erosion is actually a natural process that is easy to recognize, but in most places this event is exacerbated by human activities in poor land use, deforestation, mining activities, plantations and farming, construction activities or poorly planned development, and road construction.

What importance is crop rotation in farming?

Crop rotation is a planting method that has been applied since ancient times by farmers. Until now, crop rotation is still often used, because it has proven effective in avoiding crop failure.

The way to restore the nutrients is by planting legumes after cereals and the like. In addition, crop rotation can also improve the quality of the structure and maintain fertility.

This is done by alternating between planting shallow-rooted and deep-rooted plants. Crop rotation is part of polyculture.

Each type of plant has different properties. There are plants that are greedy for nutrients, while there are those that actually provide nutrient availability.

Tubers are plants that are greedy for nutrients, while legumes are plants that produce nutrients. Well, if crop rotation is carried out with these two types of plants, the nutrients in the soil will be maintained.

In your own words, define the following terms;
a. Yield
b. Tillage
c. Grazing
d. Biodiversity
e. Food Security

Food security is one of the most central issues in agricultural development and national development, especially for developing countries such as Indonesia with a large population. This is because food security is closely related to social security, social stability, national security and economic stability. The main problem in realizing food security in Indonesia today is related to the fact that the increase in demand for food is faster than the growth in its supply. The rapidly increasing demand is a result of population growth, economic growth, increasing purchasing power, and changes in taste. On the other hand, the national food production capacity is growing slowly due to competition in the use of land and water resources and stagnant growth in land productivity and agricultural labor.
