A greenhouse is a special type of structure, usually made of plastic sheets. Its main purpose is to provide plants with a favorable environment. Where humidity, temperature and light levels are controlled. Sunlight enters the greenhouse and traps it inside, which creates a suitable environment for plant growth. This is especially useful for agricultural work in cold climate regions.
Greenhouses range in size from small sheds to industrial-sized buildings and large houses. The smallest example is a small greenhouse known as a cold frame. Glass greenhouses are greenhouses controlled by a computer to heat, cool and optimize all the conditions for plant growth. It provides the best environment for growing specific crops.
Types of Greenhouses:
Greenhouses are of different types, based on their design size and purpose of use.
Glass greenhouse: It is made of work and is long-lasting. It is able to control high temperatures and humidity.
Shade Net Greenhouse: It protects plants from excess sunlight and heat.
Polythene Greenhouse. It is made of plastic sheets, and is cheap. It is generally more suitable for small farmers.
Poly Tunnel Greenhouse: It is semicircular in shape and easy to install.
Hydroponic Greenhouse: This is a modern method, where plants are cultivated in water without soil.
Benefits of Greenhouses in Agriculture:
Greenhouses provide many benefits for agricultural work-
Year-round cultivation: Any crop can be produced in any season through greenhouses.
Proper use of water: Water use is controlled in greenhouses, which prevents water wastage.
Increase in crop quality: Crops grow better in the right environment and insect and disease attacks are less.
Non-conventional crop cultivation: Crops that cannot be cultivated due to the climate of our country can be cultivated through greenhouses.
High productivity: The production capacity of crops in greenhouses is much higher than that of general cultivation.
Greenhouses are an important part of the modern agricultural sector. Which helps in increasing the income of farmers and ensuring food security. It is an environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural method, which is a real example of improved agricultural practices.
