Assalamualaikum friends,
I hope you are all well by the grace of God. I am also well. Today I am here to participate in a great competition in the Steem-Agro community organized by @ruthjoe.
Hello everyone, how are you all, I hope you are well today, I will share an agricultural story with you. The story is about fish farming. In the villages inside Khulna district, most of the fish are cultivated in freshwater ponds or enclosures. This fish farming business is mainly done by my father and my uncle. We have two enclosures or ponds, which can be called one bigha in area, such as 133.33 square meters. These are freshwater. Here we have white fish.
In the village language of our area, white fish such as Rui, Katla, Tilapia, Mirgel, Minar Cup, Glass Cup, Pangas, Ponna fish and shrimp fish are also cultivated. Many types of fish are cultivated. Through this cultivation, our agriculture takes a step in various ways at the economic level and there is a lot to learn from this at the agricultural level. For example, when your father and uncle started this farming in 2016, the price of this type of fish was very low, and the price at which it was available and the equipment or food needed for farming were also very low.
At that time, if one kilogram of this type of fish weighed 60 taka, some 50 taka or some 70 taka, 1 kg could be obtained at such a price at that time. Because at that time the cost was very low. Since then, the business of this month 2017-2018-2019 2020 continued very well, but then when Covid-19 came in 2020. Then our fish farming suffered some losses, due to which we became a little disappointed and somewhat broke down in terms of our situation. But after a few days, we saw success in fish farming again and suddenly the price of this month increased a lot and there was a shortage of fish. Then the price started increasing and we benefited a lot more from this than we expected. In this way, we increased our cultivation process this month by 2-1 times than the amount we used to cultivate fish in 2022-2023. But now, the cost of fish farming is as high as the profit. At that time, we were selling one kilogram of fish at 70 taka and 60 taka.
Now, from 2022-23 to this year 2024, the price of one kilogram of all those fish has increased to 140-150, and some have even gone up to 200 taka. From this point of view, we have benefited a lot from this cultivation. Because there is demand for it in the whole country. The fish cultivated from here is exported to different countries outside the country and goes to different districts of our country. We benefit a lot from shrimp farming because its demand is very high in the whole country and in our country. Even my district Khulna is famous for shrimp fish. We buy and sell it in any white water like the ones we cultivate. It is bought and sold twice as much as before. In 2017-18, we were selling one kilo of it or it was available for 300 to 400 taka or even less. Now its price has increased to 500 to 600 or sometimes 700 taka per kg.
Now let's discuss how we cultivate it and how we maintain it and how we provide it with food and serve it. We always use fish feed as food for fish. We even use coconut husk as food because it is a very favorite food for freshwater fish. Now its price has increased a little from before. In 2019, 2020, it was available for 30 to 40 taka. Now its price has increased to 60 to 65 taka.We also use rice or wheat husks and various fish feed foods which are not harmful to health. Food is not used here. Then rice is cooked and mixed with various fish foods and is often used, as a result of which the color of the fish remains beautiful. Now I share my educational story through this agricultural cultivation.
In general, in 2016, when we started this cultivation, our family was going through a lot of financial crisis, then we decided to cultivate it. Initially, we started it by taking a lot of loans. Since then, our family's financial mobility has increased a lot. And we can meet the meat needs of people through this cultivation, as well as we can take it as a step for the economic development of the country, as a whim or business. If we can increase this, which is currently declining, we will play a more important role in the agricultural sector, and this has been a guiding principle in my life that has played a major role in the financial well-being of my family.
